PPC- Cheap Ads for unrelated keywords to get lots of impressions

My idea is to have ads out for distantly related or unrelated keywords--
The strategy would be to have so many keywords that you're bound to get impressions, and meanwhile offer a low max cpc like $.05

Imagine it as a newspaper ad- not really specifically targeted to someone but getting in front of a lot of eyes for cheap -- and then still only paying if they click

What are your guys' thoughts?

I was on a webinar where this was discussed...perhaps this is where you are getting this information.

Anyway, they would have tons of keywords and bid super low...like $.05...this is on Bing.

The keywords weren't exactly unrelated...they fit the customer avatar but not necessarily the keywords being actively searched.

They even bid on super broad words like "the" and "www"

I tried it and it actually worked. The CTR was ridiculous, but you can get a lot of $.05 clicks.

Better convert well, though. You can still run though the same budget just as fast due to volume.

im no expert but i was doing this for a while and was getting really cheap clicks, however a. they probably weren't relevant and b. after i did this i wound up hiring a ppc specialist who told me that strategy will work temporarily but in the long run google will either not run your ads or will make you pay more because they arent relevant.
