In building links, which is better, the singular or plural form of the word?

Could it be like the singular form is already within the plural form, so it's just better to take the plural form? How does that work in search rankings? Which is more competitive to use?

Singular, plural, misspelling, random text, ... To make your backlinking profile look natural, you need everything.

I think it depends on where you put the link. Try to add keywords naturally in your content and put the anchor text on that word which is related and specify the page where it goes.
