Adwords - Targeting Same Keyword With 2 Domains

Hi All

I currently have two websites which I use the same adwords account for. These websites are:

Election Signs
Plastic Printing - Cheap Corflute® Signs

I am wanting to target the keyword "Election Signs" for both of these sites at the same time. If I set up two separate campaigns, one for ElectionSigns.com.au and the other for PlasticPrinting.com.au , will both ads appear when the term Election Signs is searched, or will only one of these ads be displayed at any time?

Cheers

Jake

  • Jake,

By doing this you will effectively be competing with yourself in search. Is there any reason you can’t just sell the product/service on one domain? You may be able to do this if the domains targeted different regions. Then if a target market searched for what you are selling, ads would only show for the website you have designated in that region instead of both competing at the same time.

You may also be violating Google’s Double serving policy,

    Hope that helps,

      Hi Jake,

Only one ad will display from the same account for the same SERP. As Shawn pointed out, you are effectively competing with yourself if you have multiple ads competing for the same keyword traffic.

If you were to try to get around this by creating a separate AdWords account, you will be in violation of of AdWords Double Serving Policy, and could possibly earn a lifetime ban from the AdWords program.

A legitimate way to dominate the market is to offer your products on a wholesale basis to resellers who can legitimately compete for the same keywords that you are targeting. You will have to share profits with your resellers, but it is a legitimate way to dominate the market.

You might even be able to find resellers partners right here on the WF Building eCommerce Sites - Wholesale, Drop Shipping.

The question sounds simple, but you are not providing all info needed to answer
    it correctly.

If the sites offer different products, or maybe even slightly different products,
then it perhaps would be legit.

One site is offering election signs specifically, the other is
offering any sign. You would have to make sure they don't
violate the terms of double serving, which would involve a
little tweaking. But it could be done.

You could have 5 different websites selling 5 different kinds of
ladders. One brand for step ladders, another brand for painting
ladders, another brand for tall ladders, etc.

The problem with having an ad competing on the same page, is
that it will lower the QS of the one not clicked.

Better to only do election signs on one, and not have the word
    election targeted by the other.

The election sign site violates more adwords TOS. You can't
harvest emails without following rules. I would look those rules
    up before I got banned.

      Thanks guys.

Whilst I can see the disadvantage in competing with yourself, I was more looking at dominating the market. If I could get to No.1 in the organic listings, and then have 2 of the top 3 adwords positions taken, then I would be dominating that keyword. However looking at it, I concede that it could be violating Googles double serve policy.

In regards to harvesting emails, hopefully this is not the case. The main purpose of the site is sell Election Signs, however we want to make it as easy as possible for them to place an order by including a contact form.

Does any else think that I am violating the harvesting TOS?

      Cheers
