I would imagine image ads would work the best since you have a mostly image site. But you should always test and try different ads and ad placement.

Try image ads only and a mixture of image ads and text ads to see what works best.

Your the only one that knows the answer to your question.

Split test both text/image Ads on your own site to see which performs better. Nobody here or anyplace else knows what works best on your site, we don't have access to your data/site/traffic.

Google tells you the best practice is image and text for any site.

Some disagree. I for one, took the plunge and have never looked back

The key is to have 3 ad blocks, strategically placed. You open your
site up to more bidders. IMHO, you stand a better chance at getting
      more targeted text ads.

I have 2 blocks showing on page load, above the fold, one more a tad below.
One block above the fold normally shows image, other text. The image ad can have
the effect of shoving out more untargeted ads.

Like Yukon said, I got to that point by testing. Just trying to
      give a starting point.

What you need to do is come up with better keywords. Chew on that
one for awhile. Not "funny photos," that's for sure. It may require you
      to add some good text.

Google's best practice guide is the point to start with your ad placement strategy. However, keep a close look at your ad display stats like CTR, RPM etc and tweak and test as required.

There's no secret formulas for Adsense performance. Just make several tests and get smart conclusions.

I'd test both variations with a few thousand impressions, and stick with whatever gives the better results.
