Ac.uk domain extension

I have no idea about ac.uk domain but what I can gage is that it is the uks .edu domain? Here's my question for you... My client has 6 pre schools in one area and I mentioned the possibility of getting her ac.uk domains for each school or one for all 6 (she had no clue what they were). I told her I don't know if it is possible and I would look into it. Would she be eligible to get this extension or a .edi extension? If so what are the benefits of ac.uk? Are they the same as a .edu but for uk specific searches?

Any advice would be great !

    it's for UK uni's mate, it's the uk equivalent of the USA's .EDU

    you need to be an accredited uni and even then they have to apply for it themselves.

      have been looking into it more and there is an extension of sch.uk which may be interesting.
