Why The Google Jan Update Affected Me

I created a new website in early Dec. and this past update killed my rankings. I was genuinely confused why I lost rankings because my articles were decent quality. I say decent because I wrote them but I am not the best writer, slowly learning but I am giving it 100%.
The only backlinks I did were blog comments about 10 -20 all well written. In any case, I checked my backlinks today out of curiosity and realized one of the blogs I commented on twice has a comment sidebar widget.
The 2 comments I made that got approved are in the sidebar and the website has 100s of pages. This was unintentional and the reason I believe I got hurt in the rankings.
100's of links to a website that is not even 2 months old.
I submitted the website to the disavow tool because the web site owner is not responding.
My question now is, even if the disavow tool removes the links I received. Wont the website for a long time have trouble ranking because it may have be categorized as a website with 100's of spam links?
