Is quality content enough for ranking high in the search engines?

The last month I've been writing 5-20 high quality, relevant articles to my site each day. As of December 20th, 2012 my site had just over 100 articles and today I just crossed the 400 mark.

I've been working my butt off doing this but I don't want all my hard work to go to waste, so I want to know - Is this sufficient enough for SEO?

I've given up on backlinks because the amount of work that you put in for even a few backlinks is simply not worth it - I'd rather spend my time writing quality content for my site. Not to mention that if you build backlinks too quickly and they appear unnatural, Google is likely to give you a search engine penalty.

What do you think? Is this sufficient enough to make my site successful? The site is fairly new (about 5 months old) and it currently has about 7,500 page views per month.

Any feedback is appreciated!

No, it's not. You absolutely need backlinks or mentions from other websites (preferably websites within your industry). Not for big keywords at least. If you are uneasy about building backlinks, look at it more as an opportunity to promote your website. Social media, blog commenting, guest posting, and sharing your site with interested individuals are all legitimate "backlinking" methods that help you to promote your website.

I'll say this though - great content makes it much easier for you to rank and easier for you to receive links from other websites within your industry.

It sounds like you have the content creation part of it down, now you need to look at how to market yourself to your target market. Try to find link sources that will actually drive traffic to your website.

Having quality contents is actually a big advantage and you can maximize them by using them as reference when you do blog comment, forum posting and even social share - in short link building.

Forget about the target keywords as anchor texts and the nofollow attribute, the purpose of the contents is to serve as valuable resources and not solely for SEO.

These quality contents would eventually help your rankings but it would take maybe months or even years - only Google knows.

So, you have to options; create tons of quality contents and wait for someone to mention them in his site or take time, maybe an hour or 2, to "help" those who are in need of valuable resources.

Yes, you need links. I have a site that beats everything in the niche, hands down. I have been focused on other sites for the past two years until I sold them.

I started focusing on this site the last four months, primarily link building and bam, the traffic increases exponential each day. Outside of 10 new pages a month, nothing has changed, but the link building.

I'm at 1200 users a day now, four months ago it was 80 a day.

People love to link to it, they love the content. Links change everything.

As you have quality content, the first step towards ranking your website is complete. But surely that's not enough. You will need backlinks, and when I am mentioning backlinks it does not refer to irrelevant or crap backlink. But your backlinks need to be relevant.

And you also need social signals as well to rank in search engines. Google is also not denying the fact. But still backlink is the most important factor which decides the SERP ranking.

Links will always be needed to rank number one for competitive keywords but focusing on content will provide the best SEO results, longterm.

I would focus more on mastering the art of writing instead of building links (e.g. how to write a college level essay, staying on title topic, eliminating wordy sentences, cliches, unnecessary modifiers, etc.)

I wish I had a gift for writing but I don’t. However, I’ve been studying the art of writing and applying that knowledge in my articles and seen great results.

Do you have an EZA account? If not, you need one. Writing that much content and quality will benefit you tremendously by having others (mostly in your niche) publish your stuff on their sites. You get targeted traffic (and backlinks) with no more work on your part.

How does sending traffic to EZA help anyone besides EZA?

I'd go as far as saying that having high quality content does very little in helping a site get ranked. At least in the short term. I know, blasphemy.

What's more important is targeting the right keywords. From there, you simply need to have relevant content on the page and sufficient backlinks and you can get a site to rank.

With that said, quality content helps create a good user experience, helps with monetizing the site, and helps build long term value. So it's incredibly important. But as far as ranking, it really doesn't make a huge difference.

Quality Content would be great but not enough. It is important that you get quality backlinks as well. Also writing proper content is very important.

If you have quality content on your website and know how to promote them to the right audience, then you can easily get some good backlinks to your website.

I'm already impressed that you get 7500 pageviews a month without having build a single link. I have some sites with 100+ decent written articles that get 0 visitors a month.

    Hi,
Just writing high quality articles is not enough. You need good quality back-links as well to crush your competitors!
If you don't want to mess with various link building submissions, i would highly recommend you to take guest blogging as your number one blog promotion strategy. Via guest blogging, you will not only be earning high quality back-links, but at the same time you will also attract an engaging audience to your blog.

    Good luck

High quality content is the backbone of great rankings these days, but it won't be enough in itself. A few good backlinks will definitely multiply your results!

Contrary to popular belief, quality content does not help you rank when your site is starting out. You need proper on-page SEO and the right links.

I would say quality content is critical but backlinks are an extremly important factor which must not be overlooked. I`ve seen many cases in which people try to post unique quality content without creating any backlinks and they wonder why they don`t rank.

Backlinks are a critical factor in determining your rankings and you should build them.

Of course content is just a part (very important but only a part of the ranking process)

Another important part is your on-page optimization and how well is your site organized in terms of on-page. Design and website structure plays a role here as well.

Another important part is the backlinks you had .

There are many other factors as well but these are the most important in my opinion.

I know Google says all the time that you should focus on content instead of backlinks but my results shows different stats. If you`re website is a micro niche one or your niche is not a big one chances for people to link to your site (like google want) are very small and this is something very unlikely to happend.

Without people linking to your website? How people will follow your website? Even though if you have quality and unique content on your website, without back links how people will find you?

Instead of writing every day 5 articles, write just 1. The time spent on other 4, spend it on building links to the article(not to the site).

    Methods:
    Social Media
    Social Bookmarking
    Blog commenting
    Guest Posting

Do not use keywords in anchor texts...use just dummy texts or short titles or just site URL.

    SEO is very simple.
Create NEW,Quality content and build links to it.
    Move next.

Quality content generates 80% of the traffic in the long run. I suggest you should write 1-2 longer, higher quality articles instead of 5 average quality articles. Or it's enough if you write 2 exceptional articles per week, and 10-15 great articles per month. Quality is always worth more than quantity.

About linkbuilding: Don't overdo it. Don't outsource it. Do it yourself. One link a day keeps Penguin away Focus on keyword research instead of building hundreds of useless backlinks. Choosing the right keyword and topic is the most important factor.

If you focus on long tail keyword in which their is lower competition then backlinks in my opinion are not as necessary.

For example if you were to write an article on How to make cucumber gloves in autumn. Since their is little to no competition you will rank.

However for more competitive words like online dating reviews, you will need backlinks to compete.
