Hi guys i just wanted your opinion or if you have had any experiance in buying links on a website home page with a Alexa rank in top 1000 also the home page is a PR6.

I'm currently on first page of Google for a specific keyword im hoping this will boost me to top 2 positions.

I have bought many pr6 and pr5 links in the past, but im thinking this one might be somthing special as its in the top ranked 1000 websites in the world maybe Google might give me some extra respect. Also the website is category related to my website.

Any one have any experiance with this? im gussing it might give my site a lot more google love than a pr6 site with Alexa rank of 5 million. I might be wrong thanks guys.

  • Alexa rank doesn't matter - Page rank doesn't matter.

You could siphon off that traffic all day long, but why would it matter if that traffic didn't do a thing for YOUR site?

What should be your primary concern is the DEMOGRAPHICS of the site.

Look at the demographics of YOUR site and the highest converting demographics (install quantcast and collect data for a couple of months)

Then - look for the sites that have the SAME demographics so that when you get the 'high links' from THEM you know your traffic will ALSO be interested in YOU.

Otherwise, the traffic will come to your site and not give a rip.... You'll see high bounce rates, high exit rates, and the backlink and PR will do nothing for you.

      Disagree completely.

Yes it's true Alexa doesn't matter (it could even be inflated) but typically a website with an Alexa rank that high is getting a ton of traffic.

Now chances that it will convert on your website? Low

BUT a PR 6 backlink that doesn't contain the nofollow tag is an extremely powerful backlink and alone could give your website a PR of 2-3+ not to mention give you a very noticeable boost in rankings given the page isn't selling 1000s of links

      good luck!

  • One thing you're not taking into account is the relevancy of the website, though.

If you have a website that has a PR of 6, and it is about 'building sandcastles' and it points to your website about 'how to train your dog' the backlink is nullified - do follow or not.

It will have no bearing on your PR.

Your backlink needs to have relevancy as well. That is why these SEO services selling 'PR 6' backlinks en masse rarely do anything for the main website.

Because they are spammed on irrelevant website not within the same 'clique' of the main page.

In his post he states the website is related... Not to mention there are millions of websites out there ranking with irrelevant links.. (JCPenney ring a bell?)

The only thing that effects PR is PR... Relevancy means nothing. Please stop giving people false information on these forums

If you want to help others, I suggest you learn SEO yourself first. I don't mean to be rude or anything it's just people have it hard enough without people coming in and spreading false information

  • It's okay, I'm merely using this as a professional discourse ad I'm sure you're simply trying to sell your sig links - so you're not hurting my feelings in anyway by trying to 'call me out

I assure you, I know what I'm talking about - and we can both cite years of experience.

So - instead of telling people to listen to me, or to you, or to anyone else that might read this post.... we'll refer them to Matt Cutts (the new stuff - not the old stuff) And anything else that Google has published.

Not speculation from people trying to sell something - I just think it would be fair for people to take a 3rd party view from the source..

But then again, we can also go back to what has work immensely for us and be just okay with that.

  • The alexa rank basically tailors to the number of web developers on your website. It tracks mostly on the users with the alexa toolbar installed. How many people would have that toolbar installed if they looked for like food blogs... probably not very many. Now, if you wrote like programming tutorials, you would have the unfair advantage.

I'm not trying to sell anything

You're pointing people in the wrong direction and in turn you're causing them to either miss out on something or spend their money in the wrong place.

Does that not effect your conscience?

  • Actually demographic research and targeting is not a wrong direction.

Quantcast is at the top of my IM toolbox and a tool I use every single day - not only in researching my own traffic, but the traffic of the sites I post on and target for ads.

Knowing your audience is an incredibly powerful value add.

If you're not looking and researching who is buying and targeting your site the most, then you're not collecting some significant data points.

(Now as a side note, I don't think an attack back-and-forth is going to help the OP... let's stick to really helping them out)

Hi Guys thanks for your thoughts, i must say again i have bought PR6 links in the past and seen effects, but this one is different as the website ranks in the top 1000 Alexa and its category related so if i get clicks from their site yes their could be a high conversion, but i'm more interested in ranking and also the link has cost me $1500 per month yes it is expensive but its also a experiment. I just thought Google might give me somthing extra at the end of the day if you have a homepage link from one of the most visited sites in the world it might count for somthing extra right now i do not know as i have never done it before. I'm sure i will know in 16 days and i'll let you guys know thanks.

I would say it will add a ton of benefit if theres not a bunch of other links on the home page. Otherwise you get your site banned quick. Advice, make sure your link is placed on the site before you actually pay them. I'm sure you already know that though.
