Hello,

I'm currently working on my first amazon review site. I'm new to this so I would like to get your opinion about it.

Do you put NO FOLLOW tags on your affiliate links?

Thank you very much.

You should do this because if not Google will de-index the pages that has your affiliate links on them. Google doesn't like affiliate marketers nowadays as the claim to want to improve the search experience for its users. Definitely add nofollow.

I run multiple successful affiliate websites, I do NOT put nofollow tags on my outgoing affiliate links because I play by the rules and allow the search bots to follow those links if they choose.

My websites have a very clear internal structure and XML sitemap so all of my pages get indexed and I have no trouble ranking them.

It's difficult to know exactly how much of an issue this could be. One reliable source of information is Matt Cutts, and he doesn't talk very highly about affiliate marketing (at least not the cookie cutter sites, which have no real value). Personally I would add No Follow tags to any affiliate links, for any new site I setup.

A quick search through the videos on youtube and it doesn't look like Matt Cutts has addressed this specific point. It might be good idea sending the question in and seeing if he answers it. It'll be a lot more reliable than the half guesses we could come up with here.

Based on my own experience, yes I would suggest that you use nofollow for any Amazon links.

One of my Amazon review sites got deindexed, along with a message in Webmaster Tools about a manual penalty due to quality issues.

After making all my links nofollow (and a few other changes) and pleading my case with Google the penalty was revoked and the site is indexed again.

If you use wordpress you might find this plugin useful - it's what I am using to ensure all my affiliate links are nofollow: Nofollow for external link
