Domain Name Extension Question - PR

Hey,

Does anyone have any insight as to what domain name extensions rank better and, or if there is any difference between a .com and .info?

.com's are king and most memorable but in terms of ranking for keywords have you noticed or experienced a difference in search results?

I see mixed feelings about .info. A lot of people recommend .info because its an international extension, cheap, and not saturated like .com's. but I see just as many people recommend against .info because they claim its associated with spam and a tarnished extension, perhaps penalized by Google, etc.

Would love to hear your opinion and your experience?

Thanks.

I wonder if a lot of this changed with Panda last year.

Google changed its emphasis drastically - which meant my .nl extensions are getting better results than before (internationally). My feeling is that quality content is king.

    What do others think?

.com is always better an .info.

.info still has the look of a spammy domains. It is also much easier to brand with a .com because that is the default extension most regular folks have in their mind when searching for a company.

  • As far as rankings go, there is no difference between a .com and a .info. The quality of your content and the quality of your backlinks will determine rankings. A .com can have a higher perceived 'authority' as far as visitors go, but it does depend on your niche and monetization methods.
