I have two websites where the links went from 11k down to 8k and another from 5k down to 220.

Why would that many backlinks disappear? I'm ranking better than ever nothing changed with that I just can't see those backlinks anymore. Can someone else please check.

You are building links through blog commenting I would bet.

I've had the same issue with one of my sites. I'm sure this is to do with the Google PR update going on today. Just wait awhile, see if the links come back.

I only build links through press releases. No black hat. Well almost no black hat.

Also seeing lower link counts. It's probably a bug, or they are doing some type of update or upgrade to WMT.

    Don't worry about it.

Same here. From 30k plus to 21.

But what's left are from social bookmarking sites. Probably there's an update happening.

Yeah, from over 12k links to 30 links

      rankings are the same tho

they were not spammy, not blog comments, not wikis etc. and this is coming straight from webmaster tools

      good links.

I've spent the last 59 months building 412 MFA sites. Each site averages 8 cents per day...I said average, some make up to 17 cents per day, PASSIVE INCOME! This income allows me to live comfortably and buy ANY flavor Jolly Rancher or Skittles I desire. Don't give in to fear, it CAN be done!

Ok then, it's definitely an update because my rankings are the same. They actually improved some.

A heads up from Google would be cool. Why not just send a message to everyone in GWT.
"We are updating your backlinks. Until the update is complete you might not see all of your backlinks."

Exactly the same here, it's weird, one site went from over 1,000 links to 0. I presume there's some kind of update their end as so far there's been no negative change to my rankings.

In case anyone is still wondering I found this article about what's going on with the links vanishing in GWT. It seems they're only to the homepage and it may be a bug according to Google: Did Google Lose All Your Links To Your Home Page?

It happened to me as well, my SEO specialist said maybe I stop making backlinks for some time and I did. Did you stop making backlinks?

It's nothing to do with that, please read the article I posted above, it's a Google bug that they're looking into.

Yes, this is true. The Google webmaster tool not showing all links to your site but no worry this is just data display problem. See the post below

GWT is the last place you want to check your backlinks with.

ok thanks GOD this is a bug of some kind...i was starting to panic. Same deal here, I'm on page 1, GWT showed 5k links the other day (and ahrefs shows 10k), and now i literally have 0 backlinks. but ahrefs still shows 10k.

I had the same problem with SEO Spyglass 2 days ago. Most of my links disappeared out of nowhere. Then 2 days later they all came back.
