Hello folks,

I'm about to launch my first PPC and media buy campaigns. I have already learned the basics of PPC (how to get lower cpc, how to get good quality score) etc and I have made several different landing and squeeze pages for every different adgroups and keywords.

BUT...

Does anyone know how to track the conversions? I have tried prosper202, but I couldnt set it up and the VPS hosting was pretty expensive..
Are there any other really userfriendly OR cheap tracking softwares/platforms to track conversions?

Furthermore, do I have to put some iframes or whatever they are called to my "thank you" page in order to tracks my conversions?

Any help is much appreciated!

VPS's can be had for $50 a month. If you can't afford that, you're not going to be able to afford to properly fund and test a campaign. All other tracking platforms cost more money than free. Set it up properly and have all that data collected in P202.

Google Adwords has conversion tracking that you can use for that side of things and it works very well.

For your media buys then you should really give P202 another crack. Getting familiar with a tool like that will help you a lot down the track - it's worth the few headaches at the start. When I set mine up I found a lot of good info and video for it so maybe take 5 and try again soon.

You don't. I believe Prosper202 offers a preconfigured VPS for those who don't want to set it up themselves. It is also a resource intensive script so you may run into problems on a shared account.

Facebook recently added conversion tracking to their ads. Google adwords has it as well. It's super easy to install - they give you the code and you just paste it into the header of your site.

If you are using other ad networks I think you are best off figuring out prosper

You need a VPS at a minimum when driving traffic. You can get one for $45/mo at BeyondHosting and they are optimized for Prosper202.

Yes, you need to place the Prosper pixel on the offer you are promoting. Image pixels work best and are more reliable than iframe.

If you can't set up Prosper202 you're going to have big problems running a campaign of any real magnitude. Like someone else said, Beyond Hosting does preconfigured 202 servers for a pretty modest monthly fee.

For media buys you will want to look at getting a proper ad server and paying on a CPM or monthly basis. I think (not 100% sure) that DoubleClick offers a free ad server for up to a certain number of clicks each month. It could be worth a try if you're buying ads on smaller sites.

There are two kinds of VPS. Managed and Unmanaged. Managed service cost $50 per month while unmanaged cost $8. These are good unmanaged services for prosper202.

Managing a VPS is not rocket science. Anyone can do it with very little knowledge. I haven't logged in to my server for months now. I just set it and forgot it. And that's what all providers with managed service do. A VPS is well managed even it's unmanaged.

But it takes some skills for initial setup, that's why you all have to pay additional $42 every month.

Here's how you can install prosper202 on a $8 VPS

And for learning p202, there are awesome video tutorials on their site. They realy help understand p202.

I've got Prosper running on a $5 a month host and it has been fine. (A Small Orange: Homegrown Hosting) You shouldn't need a VPS or expensive host. At least, I don't think.

That really depends on how many views your ads are getting. It's important for your ads to be shown fast without lag - which a shared host will eventually do.

You don't need a VPS when starting out, but after a while you will need one when you scale up and get a lot of traffic.

Sorry to bump an old thread but you DO need a VPS if you're running any amount of traffic that's more than maybe 100 clicks per hour. Most ad networks will deliver your traffic in "batches" that will strain a shared server and result in your hosting account being pulled or clicks being missed.

Any time you're running large amounts of traffic to an application that runs on a large database, you should be using a VPS or dedicated server. If you're just getting started, get a cheap VPS and upgrade when you need to. Using shared hosting for paid traffic campaigns is shooting yourself in the foot.
