Is it important to add sitemap?

guys,

My friend has a blog which is made using wordpress sub-domain. I am the SEO in-charge of that blog. I have seen that the site has no sitemap, so do I need to add any sitemap? Does adding sitemap helps SEO?

      But all of my sites pages are indexed properly without sitemap. So do I still need sitemap?

        Thats really nice that your pages are getting indexed.
        But, why not be on safe side & by adding a sitemap why not make your site look complete.
        Adding a sitemap wont harm you in any way.

          Does sitemap updates automatically when I add new pages or posts or links? And the main thing is I don't know how to add sitemap to that site. The site I am talking about is My Archive For You | A very small collection of mine

      Yeah, you are right. I have recently discovered the xml sitemap of my site and added to GWT. I have also realized that wordpress updates sitemap automatically. But can anyone tell me how often wordpress updates its sitemaps - weekly or monthly or daily?

    It updates your sitemap rapidly.. although i can't tell you the name because sometimes it added new page within some hours and sometimes it took 1-2 days

    Sitemap is foremost important SEO factors which cannot be skipped... Hence Search Engines access sitemap to crawl our websites completely... Sitemap not needed if you have less number of pages.. While a website with 100s of pages will definitely needs sitemap...

    Sitemap is important because sitemap is added also in webmaster tool so is easily Google crawler that one page so because all webpage link available in one url....

    A sitemap is imperative. When a bot visits your site - be it a regular visit or a visit from another site that you are linked to (with a "follow" tag) - the second thing the bot does is to try and find your sitemap. Without a sitemap, the only things that get indexed are the things linked to from your index page or the page that was linked to.

    There is plenty of software that allows automatic updating of your sitemap, and you can ping them like a blog page that you have just published.
