if you have lot of readers, yes, you may add a forum. Otherwise adding a forum to a normal blog with less than 500 daily unique visitors will be not good I think

That 500 doesn't make any sense to me.

Even If only 25% of 500 unique traffic posted only once per day on a forum, that would average out to 45,625 forum post per year (not bad IMO).

IMO, the problem is moderating forums. No point in creating a forum If a person doesn't have time to moderate.

Nobody can really answer that. It all depends on how good the forum is.

Also, the minute you open up a forum you are going to be bombarded by spammers. If it gains any popularity at all whatsoever, expect to spend at least 1-2 hours a day cleaning up spam.

Create a dedicated forum site apart from your blog..

Also, forums are REALLY hard to get going unless you've got a solid user base already. So if you've got a high traffic blog, a big list, etc, it may be worth a try. Otherwise it's gonna be a pain.

Yep, I agree with Yukon. Do you have time to moderate the forum? You would also have to deal with those UGG or louis Vitton Spammers.

The problem with Forums is not spam moderation. A lot of has been done in that area to prevent it.

The MAJOR problem with Forums is to get them started and have posts in there. This is very-very hard, takes time, and needs a LOT of work. You may have to post yourselft as a "user" to jump-start them for a while.

I agree with it. Without moderation, a forum will be spammed by the spammers and the forum will have no value.

Adding a Forum or not is really your call. By adding a forum, you will have to invest more time in that as people here mentioned about moderating posts and other things. I would suggest you work hard on your blog itself and find some new techniques to pull more traffic to your blog, rather than going for a forum.

    I would add a forum.

Forums are a great way to advertise, I mean heck, look around, where are you?

I've known a few marketers who have used forums, and had a lot of success. I go to all sorts of forums in different markets, i'm sure all those owners are making a lot of money off of me.

Starting a forum is extremely difficult. You need to get loyal followers and generate some really good information if you want to get noticed. Most people will not want to join your forum because it's new. People will stay on the forum if they're interested. Having a forum does not guarantee anything because anybody can throw a forum on a website in 5 minutes.
