Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you know how and what bing uses to rank websites, looking at google and bing the results on the first page are vastly different on almost every search performed.

Any ideas what you need to do to rank high in bing?

Regards,
Stephen

    Hello Stephen,

Bing usually favor sites with lots of content. They like pages that contain 300 words or more! DO NOT place an image with important msg in it, instead Bing wants the msg to be served in plain normal text...

There are a lot other criteria!

From what I've noticed Bing still gives a lot of weight to exact match domains.

  • I've found that Bing results bounce around a lot. I have keyword phrases that go from position 1 down to 12 or 14 on a regular basis and then work their way back again. Others go from position 4 or 5 to out of the top 100 for a week or so and then show up on the first page again. I've given up wondering what the cause is and judging by Google Analytics, the traffic from Bing and Yahoo is dismal anyway, even when at the top of the search results.

The thing about the exact domain is true (I have read it in some other SEO related websites). The unique content is RECOMMENDED!

Bing ... lol... about 3% searches with bing, nearly the rest with Google.
    Dont worry about Bing.

But to tell you, Bing is most about "authority". So you wont get far with a new PR0 site.

Not true. Bing/Yahoo can account for 30%+ of searches and it's much easier to rank. If you don't worry about Bing, you are leaving loads of money on the table.

Wow, you are getting boned. I am getting TONS of traffic from Bing... and my adsense checks have been especially nice because of it.

I've noticed a rapid increase from Bing traffic. You know why? All Windows computers are sold with Bing already installed on the browsers and search bar. Bing will continue to grow.

Don't avoid the power of Bing, Microsoft is a very rich company that have the resources to compete with all major search engines including Google.

I ranked my sites on Bing with forum posts, blog commenting and directory submission.

Bing has always had better conversions than Google in my niche...

But stay away! I don't need another competitor.

  • It takes a little while for Bing to start rating a site and it ranks a lot of spammy sites highly but once your site has aged it can start bringing traffic your way. The kind of techniques that get your hand slapped in Google are awarded by Bing and Yahoo so as long as Google is the King I will still hew the Google line and if Bing brings some traffic it is a nice bonus.

Duane Forrester mentioned somewhere that priorities in Bing ranking algorithm are distributed as follows: content, social media and link building, so the ‘corner stones’ are pretty much the same as they are in Google algorithm. However, there are some details to be considered while targeting Bing as a primary search engine.

As has been previously mentioned, EMDs and keywords in a domain name are favored by Bing. This is appealing to Bing when site has lots of content, while the structure of the site remains fairly flat, which means inner pages are just a few clicks away from a homepage. Also, Bing tends to rank aged domains over new domains, if other factors are not prevailing. As for links, if you optimize for Bing, try to place the links somewhere in the text, so they will be as contextual as possible.

after google updates, i get most of the traffic from bing and yahoo, i think that link building is a high factor there. also long tail keywords are very easy to be rank with there.

Bing essentially tries to do exactly the same thing as google...i.e....rank quality pages from authority sites...they just do it a little differently, like baking a cake, many ways to do it, either way can still produce a delicious cake...so just do the same things as you would with google, build up in content/links/social = higher rankings...

In my experience no matter what you do you keep juggling around in search results the first day you might be on the first page but on the next day you will never be found..
