There's no specific number, there never was. Dont go with the numbers, write an article that makes sense. with some decent backlinking it'll rank just fine regardless of what the keyword density is.

the seo tools on your word press are not accurate. what you see there as your keyword density is actually higher than what it really is in reality due to the fact that the plugin does not take into account every thing else that will be on the page when you publish it. ex. text in the header, side bars, footer ect. try Free Keyword Density Analyzer Tool to check the key word density of the entire page, which is how google does it.

further more, i've heard, from a number of sources, that keyword density isn't the issue, key word stuffing is...biggg difference. high keyword density is generally ok as long as you dont seem to be actively trying insert keywords every where and in places where it doesnt make sense. you can have high keyword density as long as the blog post flows well and doesnt seem like you made the post for the sole purpose of getting google to rank your keyword.

hi Ben, frankly speaking I'd never looked at keyword density since past 5 year of my SEO career. Yeah its good to careful about stuffing. Just find high searchable keyword via Google Adword and check them in http://serp-checker.ezmlm.org .

anyway what type of wordpress plugin you are using because I'd never come across any plugin to handle keyword density.

Hi, the general standard for a keyword density is between 3 - 5 %, but some believe it's upto 7% for Google and 10% upto 15% for MSN and Yahoo . So it`s more up to you, what should count is the quality of your article / blog post and have backlinks.

I've never counted density. I've just made sure the keywords were in the content at least a handful of times, and that the content still made sense. In other words, don't write content JUST for keywords.

I have sites ranking #1 with over 14% density. I also have sites ranking #1 with 0% density.

If you are trying to target some specific density, there is no nice way to put it. You are an idiot.

OP, the reason you see people throwing out (fake) keyword density numbers is a few folks started selling bogus software/plugins that would count on-page words, the whole scheme is based on either selling a product (sales pitch) or to drive traffic to a web page trying to get the traffic to fall for the density hype & click an affiliate link.

A perfect example is the link above in comment #4, they're driving traffic to a page with hopes of building an email list, which later on will be hit with multiple payed offers ($$) until you end up buying whatever else they're selling.

Money is the only thing behind keyword density, the problem is, anyone that falls for the keyword density is on the wrong side of the money (buyer, not a seller).

Don't believe the hype.

I say just keep it natural and don't go out of the way to squeeze in your keyword just to make your density go up... Density isn't a huge factor, unless of course you are keyword spamming and then it only matters negatively against you.

Bottom line, you shouldn't worry too much about keyword density. 1% is a good number if that's what your looking for. So, 500 word article, 5 times in the article. That is NOT science, just a guideline.

If your keyword is 3-4 words it could be very unnatural to put it in every 100 words.

If anyone keeps their keyword density below 3% at the sacrifice of writing decent content, that is just a dumb idea. You can go over 3%. Don't listen to the nonsense on this forum.

Write so that the content makes sense. Do not worry about some stupid artificial percentage.

Really? Where do people come up with this shit? Show me the webpage that cannot rank because it's keyword density if over 3%.

It is perfectly fine if YOU want to keep it below 3%, but telling people it should not go above 3% is misleading people.

Relax Mike, the OP asked for advice and the poster gave it. It's their guideline and I don't think they believe something happens at 3.1% but not at 3%.

Why not?

What if it was 3.1%? Or 3.2%?

People obsess over keyword density WAY too much. Just make sure your content flows while squeezing your keywords in it a realistic # of times.

Quite honestly it depends on the type of content and where you're placing the content.

For high authority sites we can venture to about 4-5 % but generally for a blog post you can try around 2% although it isn't a definite% to watch...what you want is ultimately HIGH quality content that makes your users stay on your site.

For this reason I'd suggest to properly space out your content which is a key factor; no want wants to read an essay of text.

In my opinion, the density isnt the most important to rank well.
I try to make 3-5%, because if you do more, google could see this as intended.

Try this out. What you have to do more is to concentrate on bigger and more important things like good backlinks and good content. Try to make your h1 and h2 with your keyword, AND to upload alot of pics and videos will help you to get ranked fast and good.

I have actually ranked about 5 sites rank 1 and about 15 sites on the first places, it just brings me a very good passive income.

So, my tip for you, go for this business. Dont give up!
