        EDU links are important because of the "authority" that they have . . . this could also be said of .gov links.

        The main point is that you can not go register a .edu or .gov domains name, thus they are typically kept out of the hands of link spammers.

        This alone is why Google gives them preference in terms of the link juice they provide.

          Word of caution with edu backlinking.

          I work in edu and the majority of our directories block search engines. In fact, all that allow user entry are locked.

          It's worth a try for some, but you're likely wasting time.

    To find websites that are .edu type

    site:.edu into Google. You will see thousands of websites that end in .edu.

    These have all been indexed by google.

    Once you have found once that looks promising, you will want to check all their pages to see if there is a place you can get a link from so type in

    site:example.edu and it will bring up pages that have been indexed.
