Google Penalty - New domain, same articles?

Hi,

I had a site with about 10 articles that was doing pretty well but then got penalised and doesn't seem to be recovering.

I'm pretty sure what I did wrong and won't be making that mistake again on a new site.

Would I be ok to take the penalised website down and use the same articles on a new site?

    It’s not a better idea to use the same article which was used earlier and content was already crawled. Write fresh content which was created for user perspective rather than search engine perspective

    I moved about 50 articles from a penalized domain to a Blogspot and they ended up ranking very well.

    I moved the articles and killed the whole old website. It might take Google a few weeks to sort things out but it had the result I was looking for.

      Did you backlink the blogspot or no? This is a GREAT idea.. I have a bit of content Im looking to remix

    Typically Google penalizes domains and not content. The only thing I could see happening is having an issue getting the new pages indexed if Google already sees similar content in its index. You could use the URL removal tool or place 404 error pages in place of the old content to speed up the process of having the old URL’s fall out of the index and then you should be fine to use the same articles on another domain.

    Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a try. At worst I'll lose a domain which is probably worth the risk as I could potentially save those articles which cost me a lot more than a domain.

    301 redirect the old URL to the new URL. Problem solved

      It depends on the nature of the penalty - if it was for unnatural links then a 301 will probably transfer the penalty to the new domain (you might get a honeymoon period before the penalty kicks in though).

      BTW - I haven't experienced this myself, but it was the experience of a friend of mine who's usually pretty good at understanding these things.

    So your only going to mention 1/2 the reason you think you have a penalty?

    Duplicate pages on a same domain isn't a penalty considering you can correct the problem anytime you want.
