If my domain.com has 'bad' reputation with Google, does my subdomain.domain.com also automatically get the same 'reputation'?

Well as per the latest google updates, your subdomain or pages under the subdomain will not be affected. But you got to implement all the whitehat stuff while promoting your subdomain SEOwise.

Yes, correct. I've done some grey to black hat activities (keyword stuffing, numerous backlinking, etc) to my domain.com and at that time (until end of April 2012) it did great! My domain.com had jumped from nowehere to be found to big three on the first page of SERP!

However since end of April 2012 when Google issued a new algorithm, my domain.com was hit terribly, and gone missing. Then I started building a subdomain.domain.com with white hat technique, no backlinking at all, and after around 6 months or so, it starts to rank quite better & better, & it seemed to stop go up in the SERP. But I guess I just need to improve the quality content in it to make it gain good position in SERP again.

WEll, thanks all for your valuable advice here. I feel relieved now:-)
