PBN - Is Private Registration Always Needed?

In the short time I've been buying expired domains I've always used private registration just to be on the safe side; however, is it always needed?

Say that I just bought two expired domains and have hosting plans with bluehost, hostgator and godaddy. If my money site is hosted on bluehost, can I host one of the expired domains on hostgator, and the other on godaddy, with both pointing to my money site?
As all the domains are all independent of one another does this mean that private registration isn't needed?

What about if we're talking about several domains. Say that all my money sites are hosted on Bluehost, but each expired domain is hosted on a different hosting account. Is private registration still needed? What about if there is some overlap - i.e. there's two expired domains per hosting account all pointing back to Bluehost (the money sites)?

Hope I've made myself clear
Thanks

I just change the name & address on GoDaddy. For some reason, godaddy doesn't check the domain registrants data vs the credit-card used. So, each domain of mine has a unique name & address
    Signature

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

It *probably* doesn't make a huge difference unless you're building out a massive link network. If you want to be safe, throw privacy on them. But whether they are on different hosting platforms doesn't make a difference in terms of the domain registration info. If it's the same on one platform as another, they can obviously be connected. But realistically, Google could probably connect all of those sites even if you have privacy on all.

So in the end I don't think it makes a huge difference although I always add privacy to my domains.
