DAYAM!!! Did Google Take The "Filter" Off My Site? Rankings SHOT UP.

I made a thread just a week or 2 ago about how I posted on a pr3 blog, that wasn't relevant, and my comment got stuck in their recent comment widget for 4 weeks.

It was registering over 3,000 nonrelevant backlinks with the same anchor text in webmaster tools, and ahrefs. The site was only 4 months old and my rankings plummeted a couple days after. Some SEO "pros" were telling me that the widget had NOTHING to do with my drop in rankings.

But for 4 weeks I was building links, and nothing was happening. I was CONVINCED that google had applied some type of spam filter to my site, and had various people telling me it was possible.

SO BASICALLY, I had 2 groups of people. One group telling me it was impossible, another group telling me it was possible.

Now listen to this. I wound up sending a bunch of comments to the same blog 4 days ago, to get my comments PUSHED OFF their widget. Then I pinged the blog and decided to wait a week to see if anything would change.

I have verified my rankings for each keyword with icognito, and this is the improvement I witnessed today.

This is the second half to this story. I am 1000% convinced that being in a recent comment widget for 4 weeks, triggered a spam filter.

I NEED some true seo experts, to validate whether this is what could have happened. Like I said, my rank for all my keywords dropped a couple days after, then when the comment was removed, all my rankings increased.

So that tells me that comment widgets can seriously f##k with your rankings.

Am I spreading misinformation, or do vets agree with this?

I remember that thread. I'm gonna be honest with ya, I'll be the first to admit that I am no way close to being an "seo expert" and taking advice from a lot of people on WF is not a smart thing to do. There is already a heap of misinformation buried within this forum, so you wouldn't be doing anymore harm

It's always smarter to test and come up with your own answers, rather then taking advice from the masses of so called "seo experts" that exist. I'm in no way bashing, just saying that no matter what someone says "why this or that happened", it's nonsense untill you test it yourself.

We can't be too sure why things happen, but we can test and come up with our own con lusion.

The only way of verifying this is to replicate the thing in the exact same way, which is kind of impossible as you've been building links in the meanwhile but you could put the link back in the widget and see if your rankings drop again. If they drop then you know pretty sure it has to do with that, if they don't drop then you know nothing of course cause your link profile changed in the meanwhile.

Either way, seeing no ranking increase for 4 weeks has become quite standard, some times it takes even longer.

I have observed that ranking positions of the keywords are changing on daily basis, at this particular point of view I can say that its due to algorithm change that Google is doing might have caused the problem of dropping the keywords then in couple of days are again back on track. I would suggest you to experiement the thing for few days and understand it better.

    Hi,

I can actually mirror what your saying with a personal experience I had about 6 months ago.

Like you I had ended up getting what was a sitewide link to a site that was previously #1 for its respective term and it tanked.

I did exactly the same as you and got a bunch of fake comments approved to push my link off the recent comments widget and within 3 days the rankings returned.

So what does that teach you about negative seo?

I read that thread too. Glad now you can answer with experience! Experience is always the best teacher. I am glad you stuck to your original thought too.

Hope your site continues to rise.

Hahaaa! For some reason I didn't even notice that. It was the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. Had to shut it off half way through.

I remember the thread, things are looking up mate, have you been building backlinks to your inner pages or your main domain or both?

/\ I'm doing both. Everyday I try to build 5-6 links. Half of which go to my main domain and another half that go to inner pages. All the links are in the form of articles that are posted in my network, and I variate my anchor text as much as possible.

My network is small, but I'm trying to make it high quality.

Its 8 web 2.0 sites (each with 10-15 pages of unique content)
2 .coms (hosted on seperate IPs)
About 30 youtube videos (each video points to 1 inner page + the home page)
    Some local biz directory sites.

    And thats it.

Right now I'm just building up with content, and everytime I post something new I do a bit of backlinking. Then twice a month I order a bookmarking gig on fiver, its about 600 bookmarks directed to my 8 blogs/2.coms.

Thats basically all I'm doing. =]
