I have a blog that us attracting quite a few link swap requests. It is in the healthy eating niche and the return links are being offered from relevant websites.

I wondered if these were worth responding to. Or is it something I should ignore?

Thanks

If those websites are from same niche and have good reputation, why not?

  • kenJ,

I would say jump on it as long as you can determine that they are in fact reputable websites. Very flattering that they would want to link to your content. If you can, try and get them to use your target keywords as anchor text.

Link Swapping - Yes Or No!
I did this on my best site (link swap) with about 10 other same niche domains (not same sub-niche domains).

What I did was went back after about 1 year of having the links live on my web pages, then looked at Google Analytics. I then narrowed the links down to the best direct traffic generating links (optimized links) & deleted the rest of the low traffic performers. I don't care If the deleted sites/links keep my link intact on their web pages or not, they offer very little direct traffic, where I know I was sending them a lot of traffic.

My advice is consider the amount of direct traffic you'll get from those links, that's more important to me than SEO because the traffic is entering my site from a same niche external site (pre-qualified traffic) & the traffic isn't making an extra click in the SERPs (middle man - Google).

Also, all links were URL anchor-text.

BTW, nothing wrong with SERP traffic, but direct traffic is better (IMO).
