aged domain- when to make it live?

I have some questions before I buy some aged domains. I have found in pr powershot some really good domain names and one of them is a pr2 with 140 backlinks that is 9 years old. It looks perfect for me because it even has one of my keywords. Before I snatch it up I have a few questions:

1) Once I buy this domain how long do I have until I should make the site actually live? For example if I buy the domain with go daddy auction should I make the domain live right away? Or can I simple just store the domain in go daddy and not make it live?

2)Also since it has a pr of 2 how long will it take google to knock this down to 0 if I don't make the site live. Also if I do make the site live should I immediately put fresh content up so to keep the PR rank?

What do you all recommend?
#aged #domain #live #make

First of all, PR Powershot sucks. You should ask for a refund and use something that actually works. 95% of what that thing pulls are sites with fake PR.

Use a better backlink checker or you are going to be buying duds and wasting a lot of money.

The PR should stay as long as the links stay. Content has nothing to do with PR. That being said, if a lot of the links are coming to internal pages and you just leave the site parked, those internal pages are now dead and the links will deteriorate. You need to either recreate the internal pages or redirect them somewhere else.

Lastly, I don't know that there is any time frame in which Google will decide to remove the PR from a parked domain because I never left a domain parked, nor have I known anyone that did. If I bought a domain, I had a plan and put the site up as soon as I could.

great comments thank you for your insights.. so you mean as long as the page remains live then i can recreate the content pages and the pr will stick...

instead of recreating the pages can i have a 404 redirect? that way any page that Google crawls from the back links it will go to a 404 redirect and hit a page at least on the site and not go to an error.

also the domain name i ended up buying with the pr2 and 9 years old is FREEMERCHANTSOURCE.COM

Also power shot claims it has 150 back links but when i look at the site

        Internet Archive Wayback Machine

it basically shows that the site was dead after 2008. does this mean that most of the back links now are probably dead links because Google may have crawled the page and got an error?

would you recommend buying an aged pr domain and checking waybackmachine to see when the site dropped of in back links?

also are all expired domains in somewhat of a parked status before we but them and then the site goes live again? if this is the case wont the majority of all the links die out because of internal pages that are missing??

how much time do we have to make the site live again? so i guess its best to buy a expired domain asap to avoid any dying links?

i put the domain into market samurai and it shows pr of 2 and a age of 9 and 78 back links so even though the domain looks like it was parked since like 2009 it looks still good

        thanks again

The site doesn't just "drop" backlinks unless they are manually removed by the webmaster. Use a good backlink checker to see if the backlinks are still in place. I use opensite explorer, and if you do some digging you can pick up a 3 MONTH trial. The wayback machine only gives you a good idea as to what type of content was on the site in the past, not the backlinks.

Whatever tool you choose, make sure you double check the high pr links specifically and ask yourself how likely is it that these links will stay in place in the future? If these links are pointing to pages that no longer exist (which they won't) then yes it is possible that the PR will drop, but as someone already suggested you can recreate these pages, or if you're lazy just use a 404 catch-all plugin to redirect the missing pages. Personally I prefer to do both. Also, just by a quick look at that domain I would've left it alone.

From looking at the domain you bought I'm only seeing two backlinks with PR, they are both PR2 backlinks, from two different domains but they are on the same IP address. Also it looks like it's the same content on both these pages...BTW you shouldn't have posted the domain in a public forum. If you can still edit your post you should probably remove it.

I'be just brought PR powershot, the PR fake checker is gash. I grab all the URL that PR PS brings up and run that through scrapbox's fake pr checker, much much better, I use magesticseo to check the backlinks.

You do realise that when a website goes down or a domain expires, its authority to Google is reset? It doesn't matter how old a domain is, only how old a website is. A good idea would be to buy an aged website with a good pr, not an aged domain with no website.
