Adwords has me completely baffled!?

Hi,

Just a quick one guys, I am looking at a particular industry for Google Adwords in the UK and I have spoken directly with Google Adwords regarding this, however they are saying that you are not allowed to advertise for this keyword.

However, there seems to be multiple companies who are still allowed to advertise for these keywords, are there any answers to this?

The reasoning I got from Google was that they had setup their campaign before their new policies came in and they are still allowed to as they were there before the policies existed. Now this seems completely backward to me as with any rule you have to adhere to them as they are the rules, that's just like saying you can hold a gun in the UK because you owned it before it was the law you could not.

Any ideas would be brilliant guys.

    Many laws in the US have grandfather clauses...as do many private
    entities, like NHL, MLB, etc. who have changed rules but let older
    players violate them. 2 that comes to mind was the helmet rule in NHL,
    spitball in MLB. Many local cities change zoning laws, and let things
    stand as is for some already there.

    But that aside, google is not a law enforcing entity. It is a company
    that make its own rules.

    In fact, we already know that google does have different adwords
    policies for drugs, gambling, etc. for certain countries.

    Fairness is not an issue. You work around it, or you don't use
    google.

    Just what is the keyword, out of curiosity?

      Electronic Cigarette and Electronic Cigarettes they are saying that because it is a tobacco related product they cannot be seen to endorse it.... however Electronic Cigarettes are not a tobacco related product they're a nicotine delivery electronic device and there are obviously ways around it hence why the other companies are advertising there!
