Newbie Question About AdSense

I know nothing about AdSense so if the question sounds stupid then please excuse me. In fact, I’ve yet to ever sign up for AdSense.

Anyway, if I wanted to add AdSense image ads to a specific spot on a page (728x90 banner ad), am I allowed to do this?

If so, do you have the option to choose an exact image ad (such as 728X90) that targets a specific niche (such as summit racing or advanced auto parts, etc)?

On commission junction you can add a 728X90 html banner but you only make a profit if you sell a product. Is AdSense basically the same where you can choose different banners or exact banners to display on a specific page on your website?

Don’t know if this made any sense but hope you understand :-)

    I'm pretty sure you can't choose which ads are shown. You can add the banner where you want it to be, but it will show ads based on your visitors behavior and whatever your site is about.

    How about some FREE unique handwritten articles for your website, blog, SEO, guest posts, etc?

    With adsense you choose the size of the ad and where you want to place it. Then google's system analyzes your site content and matches it to an ad.

    They pick which ad they think matches your site best and is most likely to get clicked on. You don't get any say in what they pick, but they are pretty good at getting it right.

      It is hard to explain things when you haven't actually got an Adsense account..but maybe this info might be useful for someone else.

      You cannot choose the actual ad they show but you can manipulate what you see to an extent...

      **You can use SEO to clearly show what your content is about, therefore getting more targeted ads showing.

      **You can choose to show only image ads.

      **You can allow advertisers to target your ads by allowing it when you create a custom channel for the ad. (tick the box that says "Show this custom channel to advertisers as a targetable ad placement")

      **You can allow or block certain ads from appearing on your blog. There is a section on the top menu. Go to Allow & block ads and then Ad Review Centre.

    Google Adsense shows the ads based on your content, and based upon your content the best ads are chosen.

    You can specify to only show images, but often text-based ads convert better - so best option is to let the program decide.

    Google has stats from all the ads they have been serving, and based on those stats they serve the ads, they know converts best.

    However, you can actually help Google to narrow down what your site is actually about by using the following code within your content.

    Another way to get more revenue, is to disallow low paying networks within the Adsense system to get their ads shown on your site. You can use a service like keywordspy.com to examine the price your advertiser is paying.

    How to Target your AdSense Ads

    Google AdSense has supplied some HTML code-

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->

    Place your relevant keyword rich content here

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    Use this code within the body of the page (so no need to add it to your title) and the content within will be used to generate your AdSense Ad units.

    AdSense has also supplied a way to exclude content as well-

    <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->

    Content to be ignored, for example, a menu with a lot of irrelevant links (irrelevant to the main content).

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->
