How big an obstacle is a PR5 Forbes magazine artcile ranking 3rd?

Hi,

After working my socks off for the whole week, I have unearthed an absolute gem of a keyword. I'm planning on building a high quality mini-site around it.

The only problem is that there is a Forbes article on the same subject ranking 3rd. So should i assume that the first two results are even stronger, depite having a lower page rank than the Forbes site, which is PR5.

Traffic Travis says 'Relatively easy'.

Depends on what kind of links it has pointing to it. Just because the domain has high authority and PR doesn't mean there are alot of strong links to that particular article. If you want me to take a look at it you can PM me if you'd like. Good luck!

It has 91 unique backlinks but the referral domains are of very very poor quality. Does the free version of traffic travis take this into account?

I'm not really sure to be honest about TT, I tried it out once but I use other tools. I actually use Majestic to look at the backlinks of a page or site. But if the backlinks are not strong though then you should be OK.

Is the Forbes page specifically focused on that keyword? Does it have it in the title, H1, etc?

Do the page has all the on-page factor like h1,h2,h3, image alt tag(keyword),kw in first sentence and last sentence? if yes, it is a hard war for you to rank.

I'm not understanding your train of thought, screw the Forbes article and the other sites as well. Now if the Forbes article is selling the same thing you are selling then maybe you have a issue but I doubt that is the case.

Don't worry bout it... Do your thang and the gud thangs will come 2 u...

You and Forbes are not in competition I can promise you that.
