Client think competition is [biz1] but it's REALLY [biz2, 3, 4]!

I was talking to a potential client, she started naming off local businesses around her that are her direct competition. I Googled her keyword phrases and yes, her company's website is past page 2 of Google. But, her local competition really wasn't on page 1 either! It was a bunch of larger "directory" type sites.
How do you tell a potential client their online competition isn't the brick-n-mortar store next to them? Even if I did all the SEO work and positioned them ahead of the local offline biz, her website still wouldn't be on G page 1.
My solution: have my client type his/her KWP in Google to physically see who is on page 1. There's no mis-understanding then!
