Minimizing Footprints on Private Blog Networks

In regards to private blog networks:

I've read that interlinking your different clients on the same sites leaves a huge footprint and should be avoided. My question is how can you avoid overlap?

Let's say you have 5 clients, they are in the same niche.

Client:
A
B
C
D
E

You link together:

Client
A-B
A-C
A-D
A-E

B-C
B-D
B-E

C-D
C-E

D-E

This is the only combination of linking you could do without overlapping. You can never link any of these 5 clients together again?

By this same math if you have 5 clients you can only build 10 sites before you get overlap? Then it seems the only solution is for each client to get their own site after the 10, to use for linking. Right? How do you expand past 10 sites?

What happens if you link client A,B,C on the same site? Does that mean you can never link any of those 3 together again?

Yes, you have to use your client sites in natural way so that it can't be tracked.

That is a very linear look at the possibilities of a pbn. I make satellite sites for A, B, C, D, E so let's say 3 satellite sites apiece. My A1, A2 and A3 sites each link to A but A doesn't link to them. They may or may not link to one another usually they don't but they might if I'm just starting out. The nature of the sites depend on the budget of the client. So now I've exponentially increased my linking possibilities. To really max it out I'll do web 2.0 sites in the middle. So I have the possibility of say a good quality Squidoo lens that D2 links to in a blog post, the lens references Site A and Site B2 in a contextually relevant way.... you get the picture. And remember it's not a one link and your done deal. You may link regularly as long as you have new content to justify it and the links are going in the same direction (so keep track). So B2 can link to D and then in a month B2 can link to D's new blog post as support for a post on B2. That's what happens in real life, people become fans! It should look like B2 is D's fan and is following D's content, linking to it occasionally. I hope that helps and no I'm not a self proclaimed expert, but this is what is working for me now.

    @tentimes,

Unless you're the owner of a private blog network, this really isn't the type of detail you should be concerned about. If you really want to be very exact with the type of link profiles you build, you should use software like SENuke to randomize your link building AND keep track - if the main issue you have is in leaving a footprint, the natural solution, I think, is to diversify your traffic types? Web 2.0 properties, social bookmarks, social networks, forums, blogs, you get the gist.

    Good luck!

How about not linking out on some blog posts, so that one each blog has posts that don't link out at all?

By itself if a blog links out from every single post it would not be a red flag as a lot of real bloggers link out frequently.

However if 100% of your blog posts are linking out along with other spam indicators then it becomes an issue
