Another classic case of "do as I say, not as I do" by google...

UK Newspapers Spam Google, Using The Same 'Shady' Method Google Uses

Remember everybody, google doesn't own the internet, they just own a service that happens to be popular, if we want to buy and sell text links on our sites we have every right to do so, it's google that chooses to visit our sites and rank us if they want to...

Google using scare tactics against us for giving us rankings is like your local shopping mall taunting you for giving you free parking to come inside, wouldn't it be good if google treated us webmasters like partners that provide free content for their users?

Yes, I can see how their actions tick a few people off, google wants to corner all text advertising for themselves (so far they've done a pretty good job at it), we have to remember they themselves sell paid text links that will get you to page 1, it's called adwords

Everyone is fed up of them, there just taking the p*** now. I understand, that they want the best pages at the top but someone will always find a loop hole to get better rankings.

Google never said that about "NOT buying paid links."

But then, quoting the exact wording would make a lousy thread, I
      suppose.

Every IM spammer, scammer, who does not own a real business,
yes, should be fed up with them. Pity they aren't.

Google continues to have record profits, contrary to "everybody
being fed up with them," as FB, bing, continue the losing streak.

I wish people would get fed up with these misquotings of google.
      Fat chance.

They're Google - they can do what they want...When you've developed a multi billion dollar search engine that is used by 90% of the online population, then you can set your own rules

they just own a service that happens to be popular
    Haha, understatement of the century

No they don't own the internet but they do own the worlds most successful search engine, if you're not found on Google then you're missing out on masses and masses of potential targeted traffic - so like it or not, we all need to stay on the right side of Google.

If Google were a massive physical directory made of paper, and they allowed people to add their businesses free - would people be as quick to slag them off?

I find it slightly odd when people talk like this about Google to be honest - they provide us with tons and tons of free traffic, they don't have to. If they one day decided to only allow paid inclusion - then I would complain! But, as far as I am concerned, Google is amazing!

wouldn't it be good if google treated us webmasters like partners that provide free content for their users?
Well, I've been using Google since the very start, and in my opinion they always have, and do - and continually improve things for us. Webmaster tools is great, and I have never, ever felt badly treated by Google!

Google punishes pages whose sole intention is to get users to visit other pages, and it is the concept their business is build on.

What you got to remember is that there are companies that spend millions to advertise on google. Who would you provide the best service to? Joe Bloggs who spends $500 a month on PPC ads or the giant companies that spend millions.

If google makes changes then you have to accept it and work out how to adapt. They won't be bothered about losing Joe Bloggs if he decides he doesn't want to play by the rules. It's their play ground and their rules!

Of course, I agree with you, and we have to accept the rule of Google, this is only the way.

I love the idea of Google manipulating their own SERPs to get an advantage.

What URL did you type in your browser to get there anyway?
