You need to do some research on the xmlrpc.php file.
Looks like it may not be working properly.

IMHO, it's probably something you don't need, as it
seems to be related to pingbacks, trackbacks, and
    postings from other sites.

I myself, would just delete it. Could be a security
risk as well. Just create a custom 404 error page.

Either that or find out who, what, or where, is calling
    that function.

Just one more reason why people should rethink using WP
    as a CMS.

See we can agree on things

WP is okay but far far too popular among Imers. they will not consider anything else. Truth is since marketers mostly have small static sites with no need for interactivity WP is totally unnecessary

Ya know, that's not a bad point, one that I have overlooked. Seems to me it
would actually send shivers down spines of those who think page load
time matters. WP can be quite bloated. I don't have a disdain for WP,
really, just that it seems to have made everyone and their mother an
IMer. Many of the questions here are just WP support questions.

Most CMS use xmlrpc, even Blogger uses xmlrpc.

What xmlrpc does is let you use 3rd party software (example, Windows Live Writer) to make blog post from your desktop.

I have no idea about any security flaws.

I wrote a vb.net program a few years ago similar to Windows Live Writer where I could make blog post via xmlrpc directly from my desktop (no browser), worked on both Blogger & Wordpress, I didn't test on anything else. Why would I want to do this? Because I can. Well, that & I added a scheduling feature that would upload zip files from my PC.

If the xmlrpc.php is showing up in the SERPs (xml file) try blocking Google with the htaccess file.

Among other places. That's flaw, easily exploited. Those pesky
      php/mysql injections, most likely.

But in this case, it's probably just not working right. Of course, that
could be to some rogue php script.

I took a look at my offline WAMP/Wordpress install, xmlrpc.php is a default file in the Wordpress install (www/wordpress/xmlrpc.php). No big deal, block the file in the htaccess file on OPs live site.
