Guys, thought you might like to check this out:
How Search Works - The Story ? Inside Search ? Google

Just saw this on tech crunch:
The new sections of the site include not only the graphical explanation of Google Search’s inner workings, but also details about Google’s major algorithms and features, a list of Google policies, plus a 43-page document that explains how Google evaluates its results. (OK, that part might be a little more in-depth, I’ll admit.)

They really go big on spam eh; I guess another reminder spam doesn't work in the long run:

Another interesting takeway I got was keeping things fresh. Sometimes we find sites we that were just sitting there for a long time and not being use; getting those rank are really hard. We generally like tossing some fresh content onto it or generally like ranking the sites (so the ageing process can be debatable, a lot of people like to wait for X number of days before they start any link building campaign. while this is a valid concern, it probably is most effective if they continue adding content in the waiting period. Else it can be advisable to get started with the offsite SEO to draw some attention and interaction with your content so it stays fresh. )

Especially more and more, it's a vital focus with providing quality content and information that users like (even if it's unconventional...doesn't necessary mean paragraph after paragraph of text.)

[On this topic, slapping your readers with lines and lines of text with no break generally gets them uninterested and jumping to the next website.

We had a website with just 200 words ranked better than most sites with lines and lines of text.

Perhaps try to utilize proper text formatting using jot notes as best as possible with a clear call to action or continuation (if you can get them to click through or open another link to a site...you engage your readers more)]
*In regards to getting users to follow through with a link, if you have use of getting your users staying on your site then make sure to make it a new window link as well

The basics of SEO should start at your website.
