    It really depends on what your offer is, the payout, and really how far you want to go to see if the results are worth going after. You will read many will give you general guidelines (2x's , 3x's the payout price). You also want to consider what field your advertising in. Some niches such as finance are harder to convert due to the backend investment the consumer has to make. Lead generation can be good but you also need to make sure the leads are quality and backout for the advertiser. You can usually get a few lead conversions while testing allowing the risk to be lowered a little.

    Personal preference on what your comfortable with.
