I use Market Samurai and Keyword Elite V2.0 and I have great results but from my point of view is not only software that matter but those one who control them.

THE POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL!!!

Every step of research must be done correctly, no hurry and always do deep analyse!

        Dear Friend

GKAT actually tells you CPC competition, not SEO competiotion so I recommend Market Samurai or Keyword Xtreme and any other which tells you the true story of competition.

I mostly used google keyword tool for keyword research, so i suggest the same first, and second is wordtracker.

      What's your definition of "best'?

GAKT is good for finding keywords, but it tells you virtually nothing about the competition. Checking the competition is generally the most time consuming part of keyword research.

        UMS is 100% correct.

Someone who says they know how to do KW research but only uses GKWTreally doesn't know KW research. The comp you see in GKWT is for the competition for ads, nothing more.

KW research is all about checking out your competition and doing so in depth. This is where newbies have to be careful when trolling forums for advice etc. There's a lot of great advice etc. but there is also people who speak when they should be learning.

I use GKWT to get a general set of KWs. Hint: Set the filter to Only show ideas closely related to my search terms as this gives you a list of long-tail KWS and phrases.

Then I'll plug those into Long Tail Pro (you can get a free 30 day trial to get you going) which pulls off SEOmoz API but then I'll use SEOmoz/OSE tools (another free 30 day trial) to dig even deeper in addition to good old ground work by hand.

I recommend though that if you have ideas for content but no KWs to go ahead and start creating the content (especially newbies as you may not be used to producing content yet so you need to strike while those creative juices are flowing). There is no set rule that you have to have KWs before you produce content. You write it, then go fetch your KWs and plug em' in.

        Happy KW hunting everyone...

I recommend Long tail PRO and market samurai, have been using for years. Long tail pro is fast to find keywords if you want to save time and market samurai can get a more accurate keyword research result but more time required.

It is kind of hard to explain in a post. But, all I can say, is spend a few days learning Excel or Calc and you'll never use anything else. It's so much faster than any keyword tool and, if you're using Calc, 100% free.

Basically comes down to downloading a ton of CSV files from the Google Keyword Tool, merging them together using a batch script, removing duplicates, using a filter to determine the # of words on each line in the keywords column, using Traffic Travis to check the competition of keywords that interest you, and using filters to sort out all of the data. As you can tell from the pic, you can get pretty specific with the filters.

Maybe I'll put together a video if I get some time soon.

Fantastic JS! Yes please let us learn from the video! I always think as the keyword research tools pull traffic data from google also as SEO Quake is one of the best tool to have a look on competition level quickly so why are we investing for KRTs even monthly basis? To be realistic we are wasting our hard earned money behind these so called KRTs.

My opinion is only GKT along with SEO Quake and SEO Spyglass is good enough for KR. It would take some time but I do believe this manual method will show much better keywords than any KRT.

    Please share your method JS.

    Keyword Canine
"KeywordCanine is a very powerful web-based application, which means all updates take effect instantly!" Keyword Canine is really awsome since I feel it somehow gives keywords that are not that easily found. Fresher...

Also amongst of my favorite ones that I use or used:

semrush.com offers a decent keyword research tool. They provide number of competing results too. Additionally they can show you what keywords any domain is ranking for too. When I do keyword research semrush is my preferred tool. Depending on the niche, I can often produce a highly targeted list of thousands of keywords in a matter of 30 minutes.

Most of the keyword tools derive their data from Google Adwords....

I personally like Traffic Travis, for their upload speed is decent and there is a free version if you are tight on cash.

The paid for version is much better, but what is your budget?

Some keyword tools can run you 100$/ month.

I recently started using a KW tool called Jaaxy. It seems to give the vitals of a KW: searches - both local and global, competitive pages, etc. It's certainly easy to use with a red, yellow and green light scoring system and a handful of other nice features. Does anyone here have experience with Jaaxy and be willing to share any pros and cons?

I am a blogger by profession and being a blogger you need to have knowledge on search engine optimization (s.e.o.). S.E.O. is a technique used by most article writers and bloggers to have a desirable ranking in search engines like Google and Yahoo. S.E.O. is a broad and very wide area so to speak, and a part of the many components that make up s.e.o. is the keyword tool.

I have been using the services of keyword adword tool of Google and still is. Thus, it is the best tool in searching for keyword or keywords.

Ive got to say that IMHO the Google Keyword Tool is the best WHEN you follow it with a manual review of the top 10.

You get to the point where you can just feel whether it's rankable or not. Yeah I know feel is not scientific but you're reviewing all the PR, links, authority pages, edu's etc. And you use that, but you can also just sense that yes this will rank or no it won't.

I used Market Samurai Its a nice tool, actually Google Keyword tool only tells you the Global/Local Searches and its commercial value and its competition (for PPC) it dosent give you the idea of SEO Competition, SEO competition is totally another thing which tells you how your top 10 competitors are strong how to beat them which Market samurai does better. But I think so we does not rely on just 1 tool.

Now a days there are many keyword research tools available, specially which are using google/bing/yahoo/ask "SUGGESTIONS" like when you type on search bar Google suggest you some keywords these are real human searches which Google stores in different database, below is the list of some software's.

    Long Tail Pro
    KeywordXtreme
    Keyword Scout
    Keyword Researcher

Many Many others tools available so you have to check it and choose what suits you. they all support export feature if you find a bunch of good keyword with relevancy and import in Market Samurai for competition analysis, I think this combination will be lethal weapon for keyword research.

    Best Regards

    Imran
