Forgot to Pay Webhosting. What Happens to the Backlinks?

I set up a Paypal subscription, but that obviously didn't work considering that I couldn't access my site. I just payed what I was meant to pay and now the site is live again. But what happens to the backlinks?

I'm using the site to link to one of my other sites. Will the value of the backlink count again in a few days time? Come to think of it, this may be a stupid question, considering how expired domains work.

You should get a better host...

Things like this happen all the time. It's the internet.
      It's no big deal.

So, what host do I use, you may ask? An independent host.
One that I am on a first name basis with. If your host
shuts you down the second you don't make a payment,
man, that's harsh. However, when I first started, that's
exactly what I had. It sucked. Bandwidth was a problem
as well. Needless to say I found a better way.

There are so many reasons to get an independent personal
host, I won't leave home without one.

Why so? You pay for a service. Why should a web host continue your service for days, sometimes weeks in anticipation that you'll eventually pay your bill? Typically, when customers don't pay their hosting bill on time, you can expect them to either cancel the account within a few days or just abandon the account.

If the customer were to contact the company and say "Hey listen, I won't be able to make the bill on the due date, could you extend it by a few days?" most likely there wouldn't be any problem.

There's way too much fraud & turn-over in this industry to stretch things out. Most, if not all companies send out numerous payment reminders & invoices 1-2 weeks before the payment is actually due. We used to allow 10 days past the due date before we suspend the service and frequently ran into problems with that. Now, it's 24 hours unless we're contacted and arrangements are made.

I'm not trying to start an argument on the subject, I'm just stating how it is from the other side of the table as a web host.

EDIT: OP, my apologies on hi-jacking your thread. The backlinks shouldn't be affected unless they're junk. If they're good quality, it should bounce right back.

Interserver sent me no invoice or email warning me that the hosting was going to expire/had already expired. Poor service on their part, particularly as I had already set up a Paypal subscription. It clearly didn't work, though.

This situation should have no impact to your backlinks. Google still counts them.

However, you should solve this situation as quickly as possible because if your website will be down for a long time it may be temporary deindexed and when you solve this problem the previous downtime may be counted as negative SEO factor.

Another problem may arise when webmasters of the pages linking to your website find out that your website is down. They may remove the link. So this is another reason why to try to solve the problem with your web hosting company as quickly as possible.

I really don't know where I stand, as the website being down coincided with the update on March 6th. Traffic has gone down by 80% on my money site. The thing is that all my other websites have not been affected, yet have been built in exactly the same way.

Think it's the algo update or site having been down for a few days which has caused the traffic drop?

I should also mention that the site which was down has a good PR and I believe most of my good rankings came from this one site linking to my money site.
