What to Do If You Can't Find a Keyword or Keyword Phrase?

I have a video that I made (and intend to post to YouTube) that I've been searching for a keyword or keyword phrase to include in it to no avail.

I've used both Micro Niche Finder as well as Market Samurai (I believe they both run off of Google Keyword Tool anyways), and I can't find a single keyword that's applicable.

I don't want to waste much more time on searching for a keyword, so I'm considering just picking a phrase and running with it. It's hard to give up though, since I know from experience the value of having a keyword/keyword phrase that people are searching for that has low competition.

Do I have any choice but to just use a title that no one is searching for?

In case you're wondering, the video deals with how to sell a house fast in Detroit, Michigan. It's important that the keyword be localized, as traffic coming to the video from across the nation doesn't benefit us much.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

  • Mrniceguy,

Just because you can’t find evidence that people are using it does not mean they aren’t. If the phrase is something you want to rank for and there are only a handful of people every month using it, then you will be in the top spot. It couldn’t hurt to just try it for a few weeks.

    Best,

If you have access to the Google Analytics data for the site which you're promoting then you would be wise to review the keywords that are generating search queries from Google search results. Sometimes you can spot an opportunity with a keyword that your website is ranking for but not ranked in the top 30 results for example. It may not be generating clicks and could have gone unnoticed. With a little focused optimization on that keyword it might be easily pushed into a higher search result position, providing more search traffic than previously.

Have you tried using semrush.com for keyword research? They have a feature that allows you to quite easily figure out what keywords your competitors are ranking for.

First off, thanks for taking the time to respond.

In this instance, I'm not looking for a keyword for something on my website, I'm looking for a keyword to attach to a video that I'm posting to YouTube, that I'd like to potentially get placed on the front page of Google for an applicable keyword phrase.

I've been unable to find a directly applicable keyword phrase at all in MNF, Market Samurai, nor the Google Keyword Tool (again, I know they all run off of the Google Keyword Tool).

Does that mean that there's not enough people searching for an applicable keyword phrase that would apply to the subject of the video I want to post?

Forget the keyword tools in this instance. I don't really understand where you're coming from with this? You created a video. For what purpose? And now, after the fact, you are trying to think of keywords to rank it for?

Either you created a valuable video (for somebody) or you didn't? Just use the keywords that describe the value offered in the video. If you find that not many people are looking for them and you get no hits, then move on.

Where I'm coming from, is that I wanted to exhaust looking for a low-competition, yet searched-for keyword phrase to attach to my video.

I don't have a problem moving on without doing so, I just put a lot of effort into what I created, so I wanted to do my best at improving it's organic exposure if I could.

They're selling houses in Detroit? I thought they were only bull-dozeable

In a situation like this you need to rank for all the generalized keywords about that topic and not try to find a specific keyword to rank for only. This is what you encounter with local SEO.
