Ad Space: Who to believe - Traffic

I am considering buying ad space on a website so I talked to the individual who is in charge of it and he provided the following stats:

Daily Unique: 10,000
US Traffic Percentage: 92%
Daily Page Views: 43,078

Question is how do I verify this information to make sure he isn't making it up? I know it gets good traffic but I have no idea how much. Here is what I found using the most commonly mentioned free sources on this site:

Compete.com = 31,000
Alexa Ranking = 171,300 World and 40,600 USA
Google Ad Planner = 82,000 Region and 91,000 Worldwide

As you can see the numbers are all over the place. The price I was quoted was $95 per month for a 120x400. Not sure if that is a lot or not, but provided that the stats he provided are true I would be more then willing to try it out for a couple of months to see if its worth it.

Anyway, is there anything I can do to find out the actual traffic numbers? Also, is there anything that I can ask of him to prove it? I would much rather do it on my side since I know anyone can edit a screenshot. Please provide your thoughts...

Thanks in advance for your answers

    Well if compete rank is 31000 ,then the website is actually getting 5000+ visitor from US itself. Compete rank is the reliable source from where u can determine ,how much traffic the website is getting. And complete rank is only for US traffic and give ranks based on US traffic only.

    So probably the website is getting that much for traffic.

    If it shows up in Ad Planner, that means it is available through Adwords. Why don't you try placing the ad through them targeting the website and see how well it works.
