Avoiding ad blindness

Google tells you that you should mix things up regularly
to avoid ad blindness. I never did that, but noticed I was
getting a ton of traffic, and the clicks were not keeping up.
Here's what I did. I created another adsense layout from
what my normal one was on every page. I still have
2 ads above the fold, just different sizes and places now.
Every other article, I changed to the alternate layout.
It's worked pretty good so far. I was thinking of putting
some php code to randomize the ad placements and sizes.
I may do that. Anyone else mix stuff up?

Yes, that's why I mainly use themes that allow me to switch ad placement for every visit I get. Obviously the 728x15 and 160x600 ads stay where they are but the 336x280 can go all over the place. Either left or right, at the top or at the bottom.

It pays off to mix things up. I can't tell you exactly how much it increased the CTR on my sites but I've noticed that it does.

(Sometimes, I may even put a 728x90 banner at the top of my content... but I'm not a huge fan of those)

back then I placed link ads below post titles, worked for a while and had very high cpc, but eventually died down. (probably smart pricing? i'm not sure)

I want to test this again but this style looks a lot like MFA style ad placement so I did not bother. Anyone else still using this placement and still getting good results?
