Type in traffic domains and ranking with them

Hi

I have been thinking about registering some domains that are the same as their search term counterparts. For example: "sweet chocolate gifts" search term lets say gets 400 hits a month, and the domain sweetchocolategifts.com domain is available and I register it (hypothetical).

So is there a good way to ascertain if the domain will get any typeins to it or not? I have found domains that get searches in the thousands per month, but I dont know of a way to check without buying the domain!

And if I wanted to rank #1 for that term (the one that my domain is the same as) do you think much work would need to be done to reach #1? Seeing as I would aready have the domain with the exact keyword in it with no hyphens?
Perhaps some good articles and lenses with that phrase in it would be a good start.

thanks

Justin

Domains with good type-in traffic are pretty hard to find unregistered. Exact match is always a bonus in the SERPs.
