Hi, this is my first post, have been lurking for quite a while reading up on SEO etc.

I have a website for my business (Computer repairs) based in Colchester, Essex, UK i am trying to rank my website on google, have ober the last month or so been doing backlinking for keywords (laptop, repairs, colchester) only other thing that im curois about is my google page rank, its stil 0/10 and im not sure how i can increase it, if someone would take a look at my site and offer me some help would be great!

www.ross-it.co.uk

The site is only about 6 months or so old, linked with facebook, twitter, youtbue, indexed with google, sitemaps etc, have done a lot of reading on SEO and taken all the steps i can think of. Would just like some further advice to expand on what i have done!

I sub contract to another guy who i did his website for and he advertises with Yell.com and various other people and he PR is 1/10 is this just because of his advertising, because content wise i think my website is structured and keyworded better.

Google keyword research tool is great to find out the keywords. Along with this try to analyze the competitors website. It is very important to know what key phrases they are targeting. Opt for the keywords that are not much in competition but still driving decent traffic. After all targeted traffic is what you need ultimately.

Thanks for the feedback, i have used a wordpress theme for my website which i have slightly customized, i will add a meta description for the homepage tonight, but every other page has SEO/KW/META descriptions done. i have been doing backlinks for my sight for my targeted keywords but like you say it only updates every 3/4 months so i should just be patient for a while. I have made sure that my backlinks are from .edu/.gov websites with good PR and do follow links which are slowly coming up on my google webmasters account but they can take a few weeks to be crawled! i just wasn't sure if there was anything obvious that i had missed as like i say im quite new to website design and SEO but im a fast learner

    Thanks for the help guys!

I'm guessing you are talking about the keywords meta tag, and nobody should use that. The meta description is not going to boost their rankings either. You can actually improve click thru rates by not using a meta description.

      Hi BlueFrogSEO,

i have not edited my source code yet i guess that would be the next logical step for my homepage anyway? As it is a wordpress theme there was nowhere to put meta data in for the home page, because all of my added pages have been setup using SEO by yoast, so they should be ok but im unsure as to editing my source code for META description and keywords!

Ultimately i would like to learn to do this myself as it is a service i am looking to provide to people that have websites designed by myself, so i would rather not pay to have someone do it for me and learn myself so i benefit in the long run. But thanks for taking the time to look at my site

For a good SEO guy look for recommendation, reviews and check in the WSO/warrior for hire section.

As far as PR is concern it does not have direct link with your ranking thou it helps indirectly to make your site an authority and rank easily but it doesnt come easily too.

Basically, with a good SEO project you can move your site from PR0 to PR2, 3 in six to nine months.

    Ross,

Do not put in meta keywords. BlueFrog is about 10 years behind on SEO apparently.

I find that a lot of the social properties don't help at all with rankings, although they do for traffic

I find that the social properties are wayyy over rated by people

You could also run PPC ads for services you offer and geo target
