    Story sounds a little fishy.

Neither Google or the BBC has confirmed it. The story is all based around someone posting a message on the Webmaster Forums claiming to be a representative of the BBC. I could post on there claiming that.

I have to agree. It's not like you have to show identification and prove that you are in fact who you say you are to post on the forum. So, I could go there and post as if I am the head of BBC.

But seeing that JohnMu kind of confirms it there, I guess it happened.

That goes to show how ill Google's new spam fighting measures are!

You could say that but Barry Schwarts (Who wrote the story on Searchengineland) is very experienced writer.

Although he failed to provide any BBC news authentic source link... but still it could be true.....

or you could be right as well :-) 50-50

lol but i doubt bbc even cares if this happened... they get direct traffic from people typing there website name in the address..... plus with so many news subscribes things they got and with there own tv channels i would just laugh at google. Hahaha...

Plus if i was google i wouldn't mess with them a international news company... yeah and bbc could just start broadcasting more on the tax google hasn't been paying... plus i bet other things.

Yeah the same guy that reported that Google had taken down the Sape network by referencing two threads on black hat forums. One thread, showed no evidence at all and was completely divisive. The other was a completely empty thread. So sorry, not real credible when it comes to reporting news in my mind.

Didn't see his comment before. His comment makes this even less of a story. Google took action against 1 page. One page on the entire BBC website. Nobody will bother reading that though, and this will blow up into a ridiculous story on forums about Google taking down the BBC website, which could not be farther from the truth.

The reason they got this warning may be because lots of reputation management firms in the UK used the BBC site to control their client's first page results.

So they'd get content published about their client's firm and blast it with garbage links so it ranked.

That might be the case but how do you know this?

I have no idea why people do not know that searchengineland
has their own agenda. They are not the wizard of oz when
it comes to all facts they report.

I did notice the phrase, "rss scrapers." Could be more clues
as to why google decided to ditch their rss reader.

            A word to the wise.

Could not believe in this news. If such things took place, BBC should have report about it because it is a major threat to their online empire.
