I posted a blog comment on a blog linking to my site and now google webmaster tools says that the site is linking to mine over 8500 times. Is this going to hurt my SEO rankings and get flagged for unnatural linking activity? Anyone have any idea what I should do or why this happened?

thanks..

It's because that website has a plugin in their sidebar or footer that shows the most recent comments and the links associated with those comments. Google most likely crawled their page while your website was temporarily in their sidebar.

that makes sense. Do you think this could be harmful for my rank?

What happened to your rankings? It would have happened already.

If it worries you, go back to the blog and leave more comments using different names and urls to push your comment off the sidebar.

It happens to my site all the time and it boosts my rank for 5-3 for one keyword and then 3-2 for another. Then it drops back down to normal :p

I believe google is smarter than most people think and they can realize when you are posting on blogs. They won't penalize you for being a part of a blog community...
