Internal linking and SEO

Say I have a webpage (not a wordpress blog) and then I start building separate pages for SEO purposes and each page is optimized for a certain key word phrase I am trying to rank for. Is a site map enough to help Google bot scour my whole site or would I need to hyperlink anchor text keywords on my webpage with each optimized page. If this is the case how could I do this if for instance I got to a poitn where I had 3000 unique pages. I obviously could link this many pages.

    A sitemap with help Google crawl the whole website. Internal linking can be used to push link juice around the website and retain visitors on the website longer. I would recommend taking both approaches.

    Wikipedia is always cited as an excellent example of what strong page interlinking can do. Many of the pages on Wikipedia rank due in large part to the intensive internal linking from other pages on the domain.

    With respect to working on a domain with 3K unique pages: First off, you don't have to link all the pages together. Second, if you linked each page to a couple of others as you built up the 3K page website the work would be spread out and it wouldn't be an issue.

    I know a lot of people spout sitemaps as a necessity but I never bother with them. Just make sure your new pages are linked to on the site and you'll be fine. Preferably from the homepage or a category page.

    As far as interlinking on big sites they have plugins that will do it for you, just be cautious with your usage though because these have been known to cause overoptimization penalties.

    I never build without sitemaps. But you do need a way for spiders to connect the dots -- so, yes, def do internal linking using variations of keyword anchor text.

      Good internal links building is much better than site map in SEO. And the navigation of the site shall be clear enough, although there can be no site map.
