Backlinks From Yellow Pages Online?

Hi all,

A competitor of mine has just outranked my site which was at no1 for my primary keyword for a very long time. When I did some analysis (using Traffic Travis) I discovered that he has a backlink to Yellow pages online with a totally unrelated anchor. I have never heard of anyone being able to build anchor links on yellow pages but it seems he is doing it and it must be very powerful. Does anyone know how this is done?

      Hi & thanks for the reply.
      What is really interesting is the fact that the actual link is anchored with a totally unrelated keyword & when i use the link url it takes me to the yellow pages page but I cannot see any listing for them at all?

    Thanks for the reply. The weird thing is if you search the backlink url he used there is no ad or listing for his business!! Whats even more interesting is that he has used the keyword "escort durban" as anchor text yet his business is credit/debt counselling & the keyword he is ranking for is "debt counsellors in durban" (His business is called Durban Debt Counselling Service)

    If you visit that url you will find no listing for his business (that I can find)

    It will generally be a paid add, and they list the URL in their directory, the guy i sub to has a website created by me, and it is ranking higher than me because of his Yellow Pages link! but on the other hand he did shell out about £800 for a full Yellow pages online and book advertisement!
