Hello! I am using a customized WordPress theme. I have set my blog page as my home page so that it displays all the recent posts in the home page. I am trying to rank for 5 main keywords. I write each post based on one of those keywords.
Now when I try to get a backlink from a particular hypertext keyword, can I link to the home page or do I have to link to a particular post that has that keyword. I dont know how the homepage (not the static page but the page with the posts)is constructed.
Could anyone please shed some light?

Thanks in advance.

You need to send those backlinks to the direct page, which is your post pages, and for a good site structure, you can link from your post page to the home page.

  • Ravindra,

Good question here. Truth is, you can link to any page you want. That being said, if you have specific goals for your pages in terms of ranking them, that’s when you should worry about which pages you build links to.

It is very common to link to the home page of a site however the page that an inbound link points to will depend on where the link is coming from. For example if you just have a link to your website in a directory or a profile or the about section of a social media account; you can typically just link to the home page of your site. By contrast, if you have the opportunity to place a contextual link in the copy of another site’s blog post using specific anchor text, you will want to send that link to a page that is relevant to the inbound link and the context within which is it placed.

For example say you have this sentence in a blog post about getting a dog for the first time:

Training a dog is often one of the first things people do.”

The anchor text “training a dog” should lead to a page that is about training a dog. Not only does this promote a good user experience but it helps the page targeting this keyword phrase or a similar one to rank higher for that particular phrase.

    Thank you jacksarlocks,

It is really interesting that there are different opinions about SEO. Some say that having the main keyword in the Title of the post has a significant role in ranking. SEO Pressor wants us to have the keyword in the Header Tags and a certain percentage of keyword density in the post. I also understand that when we have a hypertext keyword link from an external source, Google expects that particular keyword in the post or page to which the hypertext link points to. Even in the PPC advertisement campaigns Google expects the particular keyword in the page to which the hypertext keyword link in the Ad campaign points to. And I recently I heard an SEO expert saying that Google is going to change its algorithm. It is going to rank a page based on the traffic it gets which is going to make us all focus on Social Media heavily. So far, it ranks the page or document based on certain factors as a result of which we may get organic traffic. Now this process is going to be reversed which is a paradigm shift. I dont know how far this is true. Any way thank you for your valuable suggestion.
