Web Host Advice for WP Website

There is nothing better than BlueHost and Hostgator for shared plans. It is up to you that you go with Bluehost or Hostgator.. (If you want to go for Hostgator, then it would be better if you sign up through my affiliate link

. I'll earn some commission and you will find a brilliant host).

I was with HostGator for a few years and they were quite good.
I don't mind signing up through an affiliate link

Do you have any information on the RAM allocations/ Concurrent processes and CPU available?

Sorry to be a pain, but I don't want to go from one host that doesn't work to another xD

In a shared hosting environment 25% CPU is typical but that doesn't mean 25% CPU usage constantly. For HostGator users are not allowed to exceed 25% of CPU for more than 90 seconds and there is a 25 concurrent process limit. My guess in your current hosting situation with 123 Reg you are on an overcrowded and/or poorly managed shared server.
Consider hosts that will not overcrowd shared servers InMotion, Webhostinghub. Also if you are really considered about speed/loading hosts that use LiteSpeed Hosting like Hawkhost or Stablehost.

I have read many times that Hostgator allwos 64MB memory for each shared plans and sites with small traffic don't feel any issue with it... But if you think that your site needs more resources, then you must look for VPS despite of searching for shared plans. You can't expect any service to work brilliantly with shared plans. It doesn't matter how much memory is allocated to you, the more important is that how the server is handling all the sites which are hosted on it and consuming the same resources....

BTW can anyone specify the quality of the server from this cPanel screenshot? (I mean the resources, not the uptime and other features )

They have advised me to use a VPS host.
So question 1, is this needed? My website is not that demanding!

A VPS is £109.00. Which isn't that bad, but apparently, I HAVE to buy a Cpanel or I can't install wordpress! ><

To have the Cpanel with the VPS hosting is £209.00!!
(Currently paying £40.00)

All I want is a host that has more resources that my current shared 123 Reg package offer, does anybody have any advice?

I mean, one almost works and the other is overkill with no middle ground.

It seems to me like one (or a few) of the clients on your server may be hogging up all the CPU running very intensive tasks. Unless there are thousands of clients on 1 server being bombarded by requests all the time, I don't see how a server can possibly become this slow. Ask for a refund and never do business.

I've had that problem as well when I was on a shared plan at Host Gator. Sometimes one of the other resident users on the same server get server crushing traffic, or have some serious bandwidth going on. Regardless, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOSTGATOR. I now have upgraded to a Host Gator VPS, and still love it.

So what's the big deal why so many people in this thread like Host Gator?
1) Exceptional support. Every time I need assistance I get it, with good customer service too. It's only a chat box away. And trust me - I've used it many many times.

2) If you are using a shared server, you can install unlimited additional domains if you have their 'Baby' plan, without paying extra hosting fees. That was why I initially switched to them from my previous host. Previously, for each site I wanted to host I had to pay an additional hosting package fee. With HostGator I simply add a new sub domain for each site I want added on. It was a great way to go until I needed to escape the bandwidth hogs and had so many sites it was time to upgrade to VPS.

Anyway, no host is perfect, but have no plans of switching, and give HostGator 5 stars!

And no... I am not a HostGator employee - not even using my affiliate link in this post. Just a satisfied customer.

I am using Hostgator from last 2 year, and i have never got any problem, hosting almost 4 5 website, with many plugins. So i think you should buy hosting from hostgator and I have also read many positive review about bluehost

Concurrent processes - 5

It seems they are lying. If they allow 90MB memory for each single process then why your site loads so slowly? Can you share the screenshot of your cPanel?

The error I get says 'Error: Out of Memory. Cannot allocate 74kb.'

Does this mean there is not 74kb available on the sever or i'm using 90MB + 74kb?

HostGator = Bluehost = same company (EIG) = slow hosting

I would host UK sites in or around UK, not USA. Anywhere in Western EU is fine.
Consider EuroVPS or Stablehost's EU servers. Both are in Amsterdam, right across the channel.
That would be perfect for you, and both are fast hosts.

hostgator is good for a simple WP site...3.95-9.99 a month I used to host like 18-25 drupal sites per account never had an issue with load time. You might want to check some of your domain/site optimization settings or even WP settings....turn site compression and caching on.

I had the same issue with hosting package from iPage. My website was loading anything from 13 sec to 35sec. Nothing I'd do was making it better. So a little researched brought me to WP Engine. It's a premium wordpress hosting. It's not cheap. It's £20 a month. I only recently transferred my site there - a week or two now. Sooo happy I did it. It loads for less than a sec ( Google score is 91 out of 100 and YSlow is A grade 93 score. Worth every penny in my mind. It will improve SEO and bring more visitors...Speed is a very important factor
