If I make a guest post on someones blog, is it best to have my back links within the content? Is it best to make the anchor text my keywords? Is it okay to have more than one back link within the content? Thank you.

The best thing is to have your link in the Author Bio. Also it's ok to have your keyword in your anchor text, and limit your links to 1.

The number of backlinks you will get from your guest blog post will depend on the webmaster who own that blog. Usually you will get one or two backlinks from your guest blog post.

Coming to the position of backlink, I would advice you to get the backlink within the first paragraph of your post, if possible; and definitely within the content. Backlink from author bio may not be that effective compared to backlink within content.

Normally, two links are allowed in your guest post and you can put it in last para graph as well..of course, you can use your anchor ext whatever you want to promote, but always see other guest posts and get ideas of what kind of post is accepted there then write article in the same style and put links accordingly.

The amount of links you can put depends on the webmaster of the blog.

    If he/she allows that :-
1 link in content (anchor texted)
1 link in author bio (just url)

This is as good as article submission in article directories. It is beneficial because you are able to build backlinks from different blogs or you can say different domains. Having 100 backlinks from one domain and having 100 backlinks from hundred domains is different and backlinks from different domains passes more benefits than having backlinks from same domain.

    Definitely in the content.

Author bio links are OK...but nothing compared to contextual links.

If there every comes a day when Google devalues guest post links you'll be glad that you worked for those contextual links.

It's simply really, really easy for Google to spot guest post author bio links...and devalue them.

As an example, here's a natural link that my site got a few weeks ago:

Vs. a guest post link on Search Engine Journal:

I'd even say as of today, non-author bio box links (especially when surrounded by co-citation text) are much more powerful.

Sometimes I just ask the blog owner for a contextual link. If you send over something incredible they usually don't have a problem with it.
