Hi,

I am a newbie so please be kind.

I have gone the cheap method and created websites from blogger and linking it to a custom domain. I have used blogger templates so it looks like a proper website. The only cost is the $10 for domain registration.

I would like to know if I should spend the $40 p/m on a VPS hosting.package. Since I have made $0 on the web, I don't want to take such big leap forward because I could use the money for SEO.

In regards to SEO and Google Page Rank, is there a difference between a blogger website or a proper hosted website? Does it matter? Will the Blogger blog rack lower than a properly hosted website?

Thanks
TPGrain

If you have your own domain name I don't think it matters SEO wise

As you're new, I'd experiment with different marketing techniques and start making money with what you've got! No point putting 40 USD into a VPS (btw, you don't need a VPS to run a blog)

You do not need VPS, this is something for an established business. Why not use HostGator Baby plan? It's like $8 a month, buy your own domain and put it on your hosting, this way you limit the chances that your business can be gone over night!

This may be a good read for you http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ne-basket.html

Thank for that. It seems Blogger may have some risks associated with it

Why do you think that you need a virtual private server for $40/month instead of a regular shared hosting plan ($4-8/month)?

I've tried the $7 hosting by GoDaddy with word press and it was seriously slow - taking up to 10 seconds to load the WP widgets etc. It was just not responsive.

Then I switched to Blogger and the pages loaded instantly - so I thought "cool" - free hosting. But having read Lee's post, it seems that Google may take done my blog at anytime without notice.

Would a Hostgator package perform better than Godaddy?

If you are using your own domain, stay with Blogger. I prefer it even over dedicated hosts.. Google's servers are robust and free also.. I started my blog back in August 2012 with Blogger and used my own domain name. I've developed my own template also and it looks as beautiful as WordPress blogs. Regarding with the rankings, it is all about your efforts. Yes a bad shared host may kill your ranking but how you can expect that Blogger will lower your ranking... My blog's PR is 4 now and global Alexa Rank 54k (though I don't believe in Alexa rank).

But consider the following with Blogger:
-Follow TOS of Blogger so it will never delete your blog
-Use your custom domain (you are already using, so don't worry)
-Download regular backups, so you will be able to take your blog elsewhere (i.e. on your own hosting) in case Blogger deletes it

I have used HostGator and have had no problems with it. You should definitely give HostGator a shot. Then you can move on to VPS when you are ready.

    Both have their own importance...

Buying Hosting or using free hosting from blogger..

If you buy hosting then you are paying but you have full control to do anything..

But with blogger, you can use your domain name and take benefit of its hosting and other blogging features as well.

If you know blogger well, then you can design your site in a way that it won't look that it is created on Blogger...

This way, it would get some visitors from blog search, you can use feed of this, you can use news, and lot more other elements as well..

It is really good place for those who don't have much money and want to earn money..

You may not need a VPS, but I'd also not suggest a crappy EIG-owner host.
Don't use Hostgator, Bluehost, etc. Learn who and what EIG is.

    Stablehosts is a good hosts.
    Site5 if you want "unlimited".
    Arvixe if you want "cheap".

Your own hosting for sure! Free SEO hint? Put all your sites on different servers if you link them together.

The risk with free blogging sites is you put a stack of work into them and one day you wake up and it has disappeared for some obscure breach of the rules.

Much safer to have your own blog on your own hosting so you have total control of everything.

You can get decent hosting for as little as $8 per month that has cpanel installed and allow you to have multiple add-on domains.

I use Hostgator, but there are other companies out there just as good.

One rule I always follow is to never get hosting from the same company that I use to buy domain names.

I don't know anyone who uses GoDaddy for hosting, just domain names.

Get the hostgator baby plan, or bluehost.

I personally use hostgator's baby plan, you have to start off small. No way you need a VPS in the beginning lol.

also you have waaaaaaaaaaay more freedom when you have your own hosting plan.

by the way, you'll learn how to use wordpress and whatever else when you get your own hosting. I think that's really key when starting to make money online. Also learn SEO from scratch. You need to learn and know how to do all that stuff. It's not hard either, plug ins are your friend. Maintaining your own website and knowing it from inside out is extremely valuable. Heck one of these days you might even charge someone so you can set up a website for them

Ditch blogger and get your own hosting. One of these days blogger is going to slap you and say you are spamming or something.
