Making a living from Adsense?

You either need to make a really popular video, or a popular website, or both. Then rinse and repeat.

For websites you need to either create a website that is massively popular that most likely earns relatively small amounts per click, or a website targeted to high paying topics that only needs to achieve lower traffic levels.

Another revenue stream is always good. But I haven't heard of much money being made from YouTube AdSense. Gangnam Style has a Billion YouTube views and made Psy about $870,000. Start working the numbers back for your traffic volume and it gets ugly real fast.

  Thanks for the input. I'll probably stick to creating the products (ebooks/premium paid for video) and just put out the same kind of usual content for my YT channel. One of my "competitors", although in a slightly different niche, has about 2 million total views on his channel. I wonder about how much that equals out to per month. :confused: I'm assuming it's not enough to live off or but maybe a good meal or some nice pants eh?
  
  I'll continue with my idea to create some awesome ebooks and video content. I'm sure I can make a lot more money that way and besides I can really expand from there with affiliates.

  I've made as much as $15 a day with adsense. Google 'Lisa Irby'. She makes a darn good living with Adsense, full time but has been in the affiliate game since the 90s. It takes time. But just think. That .40 cents adds up over time. All you need is to cross that $100 threshold every month to get a monthly check.

A good thing to consider is setting up a site with some of the videos being offered for free. Take the time to turn one of the video's into a written guide to offer as an opt-in freebie. Use these opt-ins to start building a list. Consider starting a membership site where you offer more exclusive videos or tutorials to members paying $5-$10 each month. Set them up on a subscription payment this way you don't have to rebill them. Use links on your YouTube videos to drive traffic to your sites.

I'm not too keen on creating a membership site but I'll be open about anything. The reason I'm not looking for a membership site is because I don't have enough content yet so I'll probably look at selling off video projects here and there and keep most content free. I do need to build a list though. I signed up for mailchimp a little while ago but get caught up in all the other things I want to do.

YouTube Adsense pays crap. You need massive numbers of views to make any sort of money. So, you are cutting off your own nose by adding Adsense to your videos. You are better off using YouTube to funnel traffic to your website. Include the link in the info box and direct people to click the link in your video.

Remember, people can download anything they want from YouTube. So, don't plan on selling the video projects posted there.

Adsense has become too risky these days, with G banning account for whatever reasons. Just like the guys above, me too highly recommend you drive the traffic back to your site and monetize with your own product.

Create a website.
Do the SEO of it.
Share it on Social Media Networks.
Give some say 4-5 videos to everyone who visit your site and give these videos free of cost but allow the visitors to download these videos only after getting their emails and make sure to check that the emails really exist.
Allow the users to download the remaining videos only after they buy the membership of your site.
This is how you can earn money.

It is more advisable not to stick with Youtube alone. If you want to boost your income then you should consider building up a website with your YT Videos pointing back to your site with a text manual as how you explain in you videos. It will be advantageous to both of your YT channel and website.

Thanks for the input all. Actually I'm not banking on Youtube being my cash cow hence the reason why I have my own website. I just use it to host my videos and if makes me a little stream of money then great. I would never host "paid for" content on there, I'd just use something like Amazon S3.

I just wanted to know if it was worth it to put my best stuff on there to attract adsense revenue or to save it solely for my own products. I'll be doing the latter now. Also all my videos have links that come back to my site. I have an online store being built for me and I'll start selling my own stuff through there. Thanks for the advice!

You can but it's finding the right niche's and putting in a the work to get started . Plus a little money up front for keyword research. To start with you can use Google AdWords' external keyword tool but there are better ones out there. I use Brad Callen's Niche Finder that I got on a sale last year.

I used to make about $200 a month from AdSense which has now trickled down to $100 every two months, but I have not been working on AdSense in over a year or two, so it's residual income from AdSense in older websites that haven't been updated in a while.

Adsense income is not something you can rely on. Its nice to have as an add-on but don't rely on it as a primary source. In the past many people made good money but the rules have changed and ther is now only pocket money in adsense

If you make money with absense that is great, but to rely on it for a living is very risky, I would never rely on Google where making money is concerned its just too risky because they change sh*t around and you even hear of peoples adsense suspended for different reasons.

Adsense can be great as part of a business but just don't rely on it as your main source of income.

It could be entirely possible to make a living with just adsense. But I wouldn't solely rely on adsense for my income. It's best to have multiple revenue streams such as affiliate programs etc.

I make a good living from adsense but i wouldnt ever rely on it for the long term as I like multiple revenue and adsense tends to be the lazy way to make money :-)

If you are making money with adsense then you need to look at other offers you can promote to your visitors as most of the time you will make more money :-)

I agree with the others. Relying on Google for anything is dangerous.

Like Facebook, Yahoo Answers, Pinterest etc, use Youtube to get traffic to your site.

I personally wouldn't even worry about enabling revenue sharing for Youtube, add your own captions into the videos so when they click on it, they're taken to your site/sales page.

There are two really big drawbacks to Adsense
1. It takes a hell of a lot of time, energy and effort to get your earnings ANYWHERE up to being worthwhile. Unless you've already got a huge amount of traffic (unlikely) then it really isn't worth it to invest hundreds of hours for a few measly dollars in adsense
2. You're always in danger of being Google slapped - There are a huge amount of people whose adsense revenue fell off the map due to the algorithm changes from the panda, penguin etc updates. Your "profitable" adsense site can be reduced to nothing literally with the click of Google's mouse.

Concentrate on providing your high quality videos, and develop a really great product that will serve your related market. Don't even bother with adsense - it makes your site look tacky and simply won't bring in any decent revenue.

My experience with adsense is horrible. I have made no more than $20 after 8 months of implementation of Adsense. I really admit that not everything works for everyone. But I am still trying to improve my Adsense earning.

Although i won't divulge what site im talking about, a friend of mine makes 25-30 k in adsense every monthe with this one website of his. Lets just say it is a directory in the automobile industry.

If you can built a site where user keep comming back... where users can create the content , I think you got a sure bet you will be making alot of cash with such a site.

He bought this site 25 k. Improved the onsite SEO and reorganised the adsense.

Another friend of mine makes 2-3 k a month with another site he bouth 20 k as well. Again he changed the seo, and its another site with user driven content.

Its very powerfull because you don't have to "entertain" your users the do it themself. Sort of ...

Yes, Adsense can be amazing and is arguably the easiest money you can ever make.

But have too high CTR or get your traffic in ways that Google doesn't like and they'll cut you down real fast.

So while it's a great stream of income and you should keep taking it for as long as Google is willing to give it to you, it should certainly not be your only revenue stream.

Putting all or most of your eggs in the Google basket doesn't usually have a happy ending.

Just ask everyone who lost their shirts because of a couple of algorithm updates.

Also when I said "cut you down real fast" above, I wasn't even talking about being banned.

Although that happens too often as well.

I meant they will cut your CTR in half and your CPC in half and if you're making full time type income with adsense and that's all you have - you're in deep shit!!

It's hard to make a living from Adsense and to do so you'll need to have a LOAD of traffic. Some large blogs and large YouTube channels make a living off of Adsense but they have been around for years. I have Adsense on one of my sites, and it doesn't produce a lot a lot of revenue, but is good for an extra few dollars here and there.

You can make alot of money with adsense , but you should have alot of traffic , I use to make €3K/month from adsense , but then google banned my account.

There are people who consistently make thousands of dollars each month. As long as you practice whitehat methods to generate traffic and offer original content you don't have to worry about Google banning your website.

Post some awesome stuff, implement adsense, let the backlinks build naturally - traffic follows. Just keep working towards your goal.

It's hard to work with Adsense nowadays. They suspend accounts for no reason in most cases... Just be sure to work WITHOUT breaking any rule. Also, in your video do NOT point to the ads or TELL something about them!!!

You need to have some serious traffic to make a living from adsense, I would say upwards of 500,000 views. People with 5-10 million views to their site probably make a living from adsense.

My suggestion is don't rely on adsense to make a living..Why I tell you this..? Because adsense is a business that depends on somebody,in this case, namely google. Just think of this..If you rely on google adsense...When adsense is your only income ..Then what happen if google ban your account..

Honestly I have bad story about make a living with adsense..

I used to get big income every month from adsense..By the time i feel adsense is great job..Then I focus on adsense and not doing any other business. After 2 years playing adsense..my account get disabled..I almost get frustrated ..Fortunately I have lots of saving..I can imagine if I don't have savings by the time..

Like others have already mentioned, I think Adsense is a very risky income to make a living from, hence the reason why many suggest to diversify.

For that matter, anything that has to do with Google is very fragile nowadays, think Adwords, YouTube, etc.

While building MFA sites can be a lucrative income, you should always try to expand from there and build sites that won't be making money solely from ad clicks, but you could also monetize with affiliate programs, selling ad space, etc.

1. Selecting niche
2. Creating a blog with Wordpress software + own domain name
3. Insert your Adsense pub
4. Write many articles with keyword optimized + backlinks for top ranking at Google

You need plenty of traffic with this way.

e.g: If you want to make $1,000 per month with Adsense.
Assumption:
EPC = $0.2
CTR = 3%
So you need around 170.000 visitors monthly to meet this goal.

AdSense does not seem to be as good a money earner as it used to.

I think your suggestion of selling your own products would be better, or you could try affiliate products, try and tie an affiliate product up with your videos and you could do well with that.

Having your own product is a great idea, you get 100% of the sale plus you can setup your own affiliates to help bring in a percentage of even more sales.

The only downsides I see are having to provide support to buyers & making sure to stay away from any niche that has a history of refunds/chargebacks, like the IM niche.

I'm doing research today on a possible new evergreen product.
