Done some research but now I'm confused?

Hi there fellow Warriors

I know there are several questions regarding exact, broad and phrase match keyword (research) and yes I read (most of) them! I how ever could not find any which covered my question.

During some research my eye felt on a product which is produced by several companies like for example Samsung. The product is much used but not popular on the web so I thought that is odd!

During some basic research and comparisons I found some numbers.

Phrase:
"keyword" --- Global monthly searches: 40,500
"keyword SAMSUNG" --- Global monthly searches: 4,450

Exact:
[keyword SAMSUNG] --- Global monthly searches: 2,950
[keyword] --- Global monthly searches: 890

The monthly searches are global but almost equal to US local searches.

Market Samurai shows an indication of monthly value for the exact keyword around 500 US dollars. For the exact keyword PLUS samsung it shows over 1000 US dollars. I know it does not promise anything but it shows some indication based on the price the advertiser need to pay.

Now my question, I have build some niche websites before. Mostly based on better numbers, defiantly on the keyword itself. There for I wonder if this keyword is interesting enough to build a niche website?

In short I'm a bit confused on the huge differences between exact and phrase and now I'm not sure what to do. There for I'm looking for some opinions so I can make up my mind.

Thanks in advance!

First of all what is the type of keyword that you have choosen. For example if you would chose a buying keyword, then it surely has the potential. I am quite sure you are planning to build your niche site around the keyword- Keyword Samsung; in that case 3K monthly search is good enough if you able to get into Google top. And you should also consider other search engines like of Bing, Yahoo (people do use these!) which would have around 500 monthly search for that keyword if not more.
So the exact number of monthly search will come to around 4K per month. And if there is not much competition, you can surely hit to see your fortune.

      Thank you for your reply

The keyword is not something as "buy" it can be more compared with "mobile phone" or "car". So it is a product name, one which is quiet low in searches without a brand attached. Your idea with an extra long tail e.g. "buy" might bring in some extra visitors.

      For example:
      samsung mobile phone

Which you can long tail with:
      buy samsung mobile phone

The only thing is that the exact match of this long tail example does not offer much traffic (<100) (most of the others suggested in Google keyword tool don't). I mostly worked with my basic keyword around the 10.000 exact match/month. And aimed from there on several long tail keywords. But this keyword seems to be a bit else then others that's why I'm not completely sure.

The competition is very low, I think with some work I can beat them within 2-3 months.

How high is the CPC? If it's high then it's a buying keyword and advertisers are willing to pay for it, they wouldn't pay a high CPC if they didn't make money on it.

I assume you're targeting the global rather than local market? The numbers seem kind of low, but these types of buyers tend to be highly targeted, so if it's an expensive product it may be worth your while IF you can reach the top half of the 1st page in Google's searchengine.

However, Samsung tends to make a lot of electronic products and I assume you're thinking of promoting something electronic? If so, and you're using the Google's keyword tool November and December tends to throw the results way out of skew. Some electronic products have a short "shelf life".

Keep in mind that the GAKT averages the previous 12 months to determine the monthly search volume.

Meaning the numbers you're seeing in your browser may or may not come close to the actual search numbers. Do an exact match search and download the csv file for a trendy or seasonal keyword and you'll see what I mean.

Some electronic items like HDTVs tend to peak in November and December (which REALLY skews the search numbers) and never comes close to returning to the previous numbers. Try doing a search for HDTVs now and download the csv and you could see some whacky numbers.

    CPC goes from 1,50-3,00 dollar.

If the product is expensive or not I let you decide: its about 100-500 dollars some even above $1000 but these a rare.

I'm thinking of targeting US first and see how it rolls. If things goes smooth Ill target Europe too. Other countries are less interested in this product. If Adsense does not work I can also mix it up with Amazon or go full Amazon. There is also no problem with any trending or what so ever.

The top 10 of my competition have PR 3-6 with mainly 100-300 backlinks not even all quality ones, anchor text is also poor used. There are only two websites where I'm a bit worried about. They have a PR of 5 and 6 with 1500-2000 backlinks. They only seem a bit black hat kind of backlinks. The backlinks are only from poor quality and many from a few domains only. And then I don't even speak about the anchor text they are using.

Why I'm worried? Well, are they not #1 because of their poor performance of backlinks, content etc or something else?
