I am a new blogger at : ketangaikwad.com.

My site was hacked and suddenly started ranking for adult, pharma and pay day loan keywords in Google. Now when I have deleted the malicious php file,I am still ranking in google for these keywords. However, when clicked,it returns a 404 error page.WIll google take time to de-index this ?

I have fallen from rankings in Google on low competition keywords. My questions is : Is it possible to recover from this or has google blacklisted my site ? My domain authority is 44 and page authority is 44 with PR 1 and mozrank around 4. If I decide to start with a new site, all the hardwork for this site will go in vain. What would be your suggestions ?

I have filed a reconsideration request in Google and the cool guys at sucuri have fixed the malware.

Try some time to get it back, re submit your sitemap and then write some great articles and some great backlinks, maybe this can help you to get back your website, i hope.

Is it only a 'maybe' ? I am new to blogging and if I am not sure it is going to recover in Google, then maybe I'll have to start on a new domain.

I wouldn't advice you to rewrite the articles, since the issue has nothing to do with the quality of those articles. I believe with the 404 Not Found in place for those contents you didn't place, your ranking will return over a short period of time.

Google understands that sites sometimes get hacked and malicious codes inserted for mischievous reasons.

Thanks a lot for replying. Your post gave me some hope. I am new to all this. have filed a reconsideration request in google webmasters. Let's hope they reconsider my site. I have not done anything blackhat so far. I build backlinks only through guest posts.

Yes.. I guess it will take time to de-index those pages. SInce you have deleted the file, I think you should wait for a while for Google to deindex them.

If they sent spammy links to your homepage I'd start over with a new site.

Considering it's a PR1 it's better to cut your losses than try to dilute the spammy links.

But if it's just internal pages that they targeted, I'd 404 them.

Thanks for replying. Yeah, they were internal pages...The malicious file was ketangaikwad.com/zafumirof.php

What the hacker did was create that php file, insert some content and rank on adult and pharma keywords. After 2 weeks,I found in webmasters,I was getting hundreds of visitors for these keywords. Now I have deleted that file and all those malicious links through that php file return a 404 error. So,will google automatically de-index those pages filled with adult content as they return a 404 ?

Have filed a re-consideration request in webmasters and its been a week now. My site is not blacklisted, just that I have fallen largely on low competition keywords i was ranking.

Use that as title tag. This info you can find in Google support too.
Thanks for replying. The title when you go the malicious file : ketangaikwad.com/zafumirof.php is - Nothing found for...Is this the same as 404 error ?

It would take time but don't discontinue the work, keep working as you were working before, it would help a lot.

But how do I title this "not found" as "404 not found" ? The link you gave just gives an explanation on how google treats these url's.

    I don't know.

All I can say is my site got hacked with payday loan/viagra links, I lost rank, fixed the site, switched my host (it was flagged) and within 2 weeks landed back on page 1.

    So give it time.

Also, I had another site that got hacked with the same type of links (this was before I learned how to secure my sites), and that one I didn't do anything to for a few weeks. Once I did, it took about 2-3 weeks to gain rank again.

So I would definitely think you'll gain rank back.

2012 was a tough year for website owners and SEOs, with new algorithm updates and ranking penalties dished out by Google.

    Many sites suffered ranking penalties.

This will allow you to see if your traffic drop is particularly unusual.

    Diagnose

Review your traffic over a long period of time. Try comparing it to the same period of time in the previous year. This will give you an idea of what is happening. Was your traffic drop just a slow time for your business. Maybe it was slow the year before. Be sure to check traffic from organic sources only. Was there a clear decline in your site's natural traffic?

    Resolve

The Penguin update may be the problem, even if you have not received an unnatural link warning, you should evaluate your link profile. The following harmful backlinks may contribute to the problem:

    1. Site-wide links (usually in footers, sidebars and blogrolls)
    2. Low-value directory links
    3. Paid links
    4. Links on non- related of low-quality sites

There are a variety of link analysis tools to evaluate your link profile. No single tool will do the job, so use as many as possible to create a report that is as realistic as possible.
